UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP's policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan. Within the GPN, the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP's Strategic Plan. The Crisis Bureau (CB) guides UNDP's corporate crisis-related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response and recovery. A cross-bureau team (BPPS/Inclusive Growth and CB/Crisis and Fragility, Policy and Engagement) oversees UNDP’s Development Futures Series (DFS). The DFS was launched in 2020 as a medium to publicise cutting-edge work and thought-leadership of the organization. It features policy briefs and working papers, penned by UNDP staff around the world, that present analysis and practical insights for the future of sustainable development. Here policymakers, practitioners, specialized journalists and academia can find new information, analysis, and policy recommendations on the top development issues of today and tomorrow. The Knowledge Management Specialist will support the DFS team in spearheading the strategic direction of this medium and coordinating the day-to-day interactions. |
The Knowledge Management Specialist will coordinate the work associated with the Development Futures Series, thereby strengthening the pipeline of publications and positioning the series as one of UNDP’s central platforms for policy debate on sustainable, just and green transitions, spotlighting the organisation’s thought-leadership. She/He will do so as part of the DFS team and in collaboration with relevant colleagues in country, regional and global offices. Tasks include in particular:
A) Planning and design
- strategic planning and continuous optimisation of the DFS;
- developing calls for papers that are pertinent to global debates and aligned with UNDP priorities, in collaboration with thematic focal points;
- creating and maintaining guidance materials and content on UNDP’ internal and external-facing online platforms;
B) Overseeing publication cycle
- managing the drafting process, including review and approval of proposals; working with (prospective) authors to hone research and papers; fact checking;
- identifying and liaising with peer reviewers, ensuring adherence to quality assurance procedures; and facilitating clearance processes;
- overseeing editing and design processes, supported by external service providers, to ensure quality publications;
C) Dissemination
- developing internal and external communication and engagement plans;
- working with communications and knowledge management colleagues (in GPN, BERA, ExO) to position the series and to maximise dissemination of individual papers internally and externally (including through social media);
- organizing webinars, author interviews, dialogues and other collaborations with the Communities of Practice around individual or certain thematic collections of DFS papers;
D) Monitoring and management
- maintaining pipeline overview;
- acting as client-service focal point, ensuring timely responses
- tracking uptake; identifying and reporting on key performance indicators;
- contributing to resource mobilization and partnership building efforts;
- coordinating DFS team meetings.
