Headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea, GGGI is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization - with 45 Member States and over 22 countries and regional integration organization(s) in the process of accession - dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.  With operations in over 30 countries, GGGI serves the role of an enabler and facilitator of Member States’ transition into a low-carbon green economy, providing policy advice and technical support in the development of green growth plans, policies and regulations, mobilization of green investments, implementation of green growth projects, and development of local capacities and knowledge sharing. Sri Lanka became GGGI’s 19th Member in 2019 and GGGI is fully committed to supporting the government of Sri Lanka as it strives to achieve its sustainable development and NDC goals.

In Sri Lanka, GGGI is working under the guidance of, and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MoE). The Ministry of Environment through the Climate Change Secretariat (CCS), as the National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), nominated GGGI to be its delivery partner for the implementation of the GCF National Adaptation Planning Readiness Support (NAPRS) Project; “Strengthen the Process and Capacity of the Implementation of National Adaptation Plan of Sri Lanka”. The Project is aimed at building resilience of the most vulnerable sectors and communities in Sri Lanka to adverse effects of climate change by strengthening capacities and systems. The GGGI Sri Lanka program is also working with several other Ministries, and other stakeholders and facilitating the adoption of sustainable public transport services (e-mobility) for low carbon city development, strengthening sustainability of the tea industry, and supporting the Government of Sri Lanka’s capacity to access and mobilize innovative climate financing. GGGI’s Sri Lanka Country Planning Framework (2021 - 2025) lays out the priority strategic interventions for the nation. Priority programmatic interventions were jointly identified by the Government and GGGI through a series of national consultations.
