Intensive Case Management Intern

BACKGROUND
The IRC provides refugees with resettlement assistance, English language classes, work readiness & job placement assistance, financial literacy training, mental health & medical support, community garden access, and immigration services. All programs are designed to help refugees become self-sufficient and productive members of their new Wichita community.
Each year, the IRC in Wichita resettles around 300 refugees from Burma, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many of the refugee clients that the IRC-Wichita serves arrive with limited knowledge of the U.S. culture (work, financial services, language, etc.) and must re-start their lives with the assistance of the IRC.  The need is great for this population to help them acculturate to the many different facets of life in the U.S. 


SCOPE OF WORK
The IRC’s ICM Program serves refugees with high barriers to self-sufficiency. The ICM program focuses on the following populations: children and adults with serious medical conditions and mental health needs, clients affected by gender-based violence, LGBTQ clients, the elderly, and single parents. The majority of ICM clients are considered medically vulnerable, with complex medical conditions that have been compounded by living conditions overseas and are further exacerbated by systemic barriers to accessing healthcare in the U.S. The goal of the program for these clients is to reduce healthcare disparities by connecting clients to needed treatment, education, resources, and psychosocial support. Other goals of the ICM program include increasing food security and empowering clients with the tools to gain confidence in their own abilities. We use a client-centered and strengths-focused approach to assisting clients with meeting their goals.
The case management volunteers will work closely with the ICM team to support case management services and referrals to community resources to address the needs of the clients and their families.

RESPONSIBILITIES    
Minimum of 10-20 hours per week; to be completed during regular business hours, M-F 9 am – 5 pm; preference to those who can be here for full day (9-5) shifts.
Preference for candidates that can offer a 6 month commitment; the final candidate will become an integral part of our team and be trained/mentored on several skill building responsibilities. 
IRC is committed to working with student schedules. As such, we are flexible to accommodate time off for midterms and school holidays, and altering time availability with changing class schedules.
