Mission and objectives

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s goal is to achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health, realize reproductive rights, and reduce maternal mortality to accelerate progress on the ICPD agenda, to improve the lives of adolescents and youth, and women, enabled by population dynamics, human rights, and gender equality. In 2018, UNFPA launched efforts to achieve three transformative results, ambitions that promise to change the world for every man, woman and young person: 1.) Ending unmet need for family planning 2.) Ending preventable maternal death 3.) Ending gender-based violence and harmful practises UNFPA recognizes that innovation is a key accelerator to achieve these results. UNFPA will harness innovation to meet tomorrow’s challenges and boost its impact, especially in addressing furthest behind populations, and leverage opportunities, social capital, funding and technology by (a) strengthening the corporate innovation architecture and capabilities, (b) scaling up innovations that have proven to be effective and impactful, (c) forming new partnerships and connecting with relevant innovation ecosystems, (d) strengthening and leveraging financing for innovation, and (e) expanding communities and culture for innovation.

Context

In order to scale up awareness raising and address social norms change vis-à-vis family planning, and promoting small family size concept in Egypt among youth and to support Youth mobilization, volunteer management, humanitarian activities and capacity building of UNFPA IPs. UNFPA Egypt is utilizing entertainment education and other awareness techniques in order to sensitize youth and to deliver population education in schools as well as out of school settings. UNFPA is conducting several youth activities( to foster messages related to family planning, small family size concept and harmful practices, where youth will be engaged in a participatory approach to develop a better understanding of these issues and youth responsibilities in relation to population growth in Egypt. In addition, UNFPA Egypt is working on a premarital project that requires support in the implementation and quality assurance. The Y- Peer coordinator will be supporting the overall implementation, quality assurance, deliver training workshops on SRH, GBV, FP, FGM and TBT and develop training materials for training courses on SRH, GBV, FP and FGM.

Task description

Under the direct supervision and overall guidance of the Youth programme specialist, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Facilitate UNFPA support and act as the liaison for all Y-PEER related activities; • Ensuring proper quality assurance and monitoring mechanisms are in place to follow up on the quality and outreach of Y-PEER interventions; • Maintain database of Y-PEER trainers in different thematic areas; • Facilitate organization of workshops and training sessions & support campaigns / events with Y-PEER engagement; follow up on the analysis of Y-PEER training outreach and commission/ analyses pre / post-tests; • Support CO with all ICPD related activities; • Consolidating and reviewing reports on implemented activities for CO reporting (including reach, knowledge gained and maintained databases of capacities built). • Administer Y-Peer Website and related follow up • Manage Y-Peer work plan through the umbrella NGO Results/Expected Outputs - Progress reports will be reviewed and provided regularly to responsible officers. - Most of the required coordination work to be conducted from office/ travel to governorates if coordination requires; - The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); - Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;
