Job Overview: The Economic Empowerment Supervisor is responsible for effectively managing and enhancing the provision of economic empowerment services to IRC participants. Programs include Financial Capability programming providing financial counseling and coaching to participants including budgeting, public benefits screening, and credit counseling; and liaison services to connect clients to appropriate financial products through IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO), and the Refuge Cash Assistance (RCA) program which provides cash benefits to newly arrived populations. The Economic Empowerment Supervisor ensures program goals are met, manages quality control for both service provision and contractual compliance, and supervises a team of staff and AmeriCorps members.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Staff Management:

  • Provide leadership, development support and supervision to direct service staff by leading team meetings; providing individual supervision, coaching and goal setting; managing workload and prioritizing tasks; and helping staff troubleshoot challenges.
  • Ensure compliance of self and financial capability and RCA team with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.

Client Services:

  • Actively participate and oversee the implementation and management of programs to ensure all program requirements and IRC standards of care are met.
  • Track enrolled clients utilizing proprietary database systems to ensure services are provided in a timely manner and properly documented.
  • Maintain close communication with staff regarding challenging cases and carry out timely, professional interventions to ensure appropriate service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to advance gender equality with a focus on increasing access for female participants.
  • Develop and cultivate long term relationships with area partners to identify appropriate partnership options for programs.

Compliance Documentation:

  • Ensure all programs fulfill funder and agency requirements for documentation, case files, data tracking and other areas of administrative compliance.
  • Coordinate quality assurance efforts by conducting periodic case file and electronic data reviews.
  • Monitor progress towards programmatic performance requirements and encourage the program teams towards these goals. This includes program implementation, oversight, monitoring and evaluation for all grants in the portfolio.
  • Produce high-quality program reports for IRC headquarters and funders in a timely manner.
  • Assist in grant writing activities and development of new program opportunities.

Team/Office Participation:

  • Participate in program meetings, staff development activities.
  • Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive, strength-based services to IRC clients through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments.
  • Represent IRC’s Economic Empowerment program in the local community; develop and maintain strategic partnership with community organizations such as: financial opportunity centers, housing agencies providing pathways to home ownership, workforce boards, chamber of commerce, community colleges and other providers of workforce education services, employer partners, mentors, key donors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: University degree (B.A.) required, preferably in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field of study.

Work Experience:

  • Relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 2-3 years’ experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising, supporting, and training staff.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.


Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement.
