Background

The International Potato Center (CIP) under work package 3 of the Market Intelligence initiative is conducting two research for development studies aimed at promoting sustainable adoption of improved sweetpotato varieties by using behavioral interventions. The studies target sweetpotato farmers in Amuria and Katakwi districts, Eastern region of Uganda. This activity is aimed at implementing the interventions planned for the planting season in April and May 2023, in the two districts. Thus, the consultant will support the supply and manage the distribution of vines to all study villages within a specific timeframe.

Objective
  • Manage the supply and distribution of vines to the sales stations in Amuria district
  • Monitor vine sales data entry in all the study villages in Amuria district
  • Enter and submit the vine sales data using tablets in Amuria district
  • Recruit model farmers for the study in Katakwi district
  • Support implementation of model farmer training intervention in Katakwi district

Deliverables
  • Vine sales distribution plan for Amuria district
  • Vine sales data entered in tablets and booklets.
  • Approved list of model farmers recruited to function as disseminating farmers in Katakwi
  • Intervention implementation report approved for completeness by the supervisor

Time frame 

  • Consultancy contract will be for 21 days.


Requirements

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Agriculture, agribusiness management, economics, statistics, and other related fields
  • Data collection, use of tablets to collect data, experience with vine distribution process, experience implementing CIP vine distribution activities
  • At least two years experience
  • Survey data collection skills, soft/interpersonal skills, teamwork, proficiency in English and Ateso languages
