Overview: The Program Officer, Private Sponsorship Matching and Placement supports the overall implementation of the Matching and Placement Program within the Welcome Corps initiative. The Program Officer works closely with the Community Sponsorship Hub to implement a matching model which will place private sponsored refugees with private sponsor groups. Other support to the program includes assistance with processing assurances for matched and named cases, updating appropriate stakeholders on refugee travel information, and maintaining awareness of Private Sponsorship Organizations and Private Sponsorship Group networks. This also includes communicating with key resettlement stakeholders, and Welcome Corps Consortium members to facilitate program implementation. This position reports to the Senior Program Officer, Private Sponsorship Matching and Placement within the Resettlement, Asylum and Integration (RAI) Department.


Major Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of standard operating procedures, database updates and communication with stakeholders such as and private sponsorship organizations and private sponsorship groups, U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, Refugee Processing Center, Refugee Support Centers and State Refugee Coordinators and Health Coordinators.
  • Assist with the identification, matching and placement and assurance of privately sponsored refugees in the Welcome Corps program.
  • Review and quality-check all assurances before assuring in START for the matching component of Private Sponsorship of Refugees.
  • Maintain communication protocols with private sponsorship organizations to ensure assurance deadlines are met. Support communication about assurances and potential issues and provide feedback to Senior Program Officer as challenges arise.
  • Communicate timelines, travel dates, changes to travel etc. of sponsored refugees to sponsorship organizations and private sponsorship groups
  • Support compliance with donor requirements including but not limited to quarterly and year-end financial and narrative reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in social work or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience: Relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 2-4 years’ experience strongly preferred.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.



Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement
