Goal of the Overall VISTA Project: Increase the effectiveness of IRC's immigration services to provide low-cost immigration services to not only refugees resettling in Wichita, but also to economically disadvantaged citizens living in Wichita.
Objective of the Assignment
The Immigration Coordinator will assist with expanding upon the IRC's scale of immigration program. The member will assist in coordinating volunteer instructors for citizenship classes, volunteer translators, and coordinate workshops and other activities for the immigration program. The member will assist with resource development, including grant writing and donation requests for the immigration program. The VISTA will develop resources to expand the IRC's footprint within low-income communities to be able to provide low-cost immigration services to not only refugees but many underserved, low-income communities in Wichita area. The VISTA also continues coordinating citizenship preparation classes, training volunteers and collecting data.
- Will recruit and manage volunteers who will provide immigration assistance for refugees resettling in Wichita. This position will manage volunteers who will provide 1,000 hours of service. S/he will host at least six immigration workshops
- Coordinate 10-week cyclical citizenship preparation classes
- Reach out to 200 individuals who receive benefits from the expanded capacity of this program
- VISTA will work towards raising funds to support the IRC's immigration program.
