Background

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA) has the mandate to supervise the water sector and manage and protect the natural water resources of the Kingdom. To carry out this mandate, the ministry has completed many water resources studies, prepared then National Water Strategy (NWS) and related water regulations, and initiated a comprehensive Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) plan along with other initiatives that ensure sustainability of water resources and high quality of water supply. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has an agreement with MEWA to provide MEWA with technical assistance in its capacity development to carry out its mandate.

The UNDP is looking for a qualified and competent national Arabic Language Editor to Assist the UNDP project team at MEWA in editing Arabic letters and reports.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Arabic Language Editor shall carry the overall responsibility of supporting the UNDP project management in MEWA to edit all Arabic documents for linguistic corrections.

The key areas of work and responsibilities under this TOR include:
•   Editing Arabic letters for the UNDP project and MEWA.
•   Editing technical and non-technical reports.
•   Providing assistance to translators in reviewing translated reports for linguistic corrections. 
•   Editing publications for conferences and workshops, and other meetings.  
•   Providing support on any aspects requested by the Project Management Team.

4.   Institutional Arrangement

The Editor shall report to the UNDP CTA and DRR and should regularly (as decided by UNDP project management) provide him with written reports on his/her work progress.

Bachelor's degree in Arabic Language

Min. years of relevant work experience    

5 years of work as an Arabic language Editor

General Terms and Conditions: 
•   When work circumstances necessitate the travel of an expert outside Riyadh city (Within the Kingdom), he/she shall be entitled to Travel Allowances equal to the period of his fieldwork based on UNDP rules and regulations. 
•   The Arabic Language Editor is required to follow high-quality professional procedures in performing his work assignments. 
•   The Editor is entitled to 30 days of annual vacation, and the UNDP project CTA shall coordinate vacations according to work requirements and the availability of a replacement within the UNDP team. 
•   Although not expected to be frequent, should work assigned to the Editor require his/her attendance to work in the office during off-days or government holidays, he/she should attend without extra costs. 
•   The Editor shall be subject to a three-month probation period during which the UNDP project management evaluates his/her performance and work ethic for longer contracting. 


The following documents shall be required from the applicants:

a)   Personal CV or P11, indicating all past positions held and their main underlying functions, their durations (month/year), the qualifications, as well as the contact details (email and telephone number) of the Candidate, and at least three (3) the most recent professional references of previous supervisors. References may also include peers.
b)   A cover letter (maximum length: 1 page) indicating why the candidate considers him-/herself to be suitable for the position.
c)   Managers may ask (ad hoc) for any other materials relevant to pre-assessing the relevance of their experience, such as reports, presentations, publications, campaigns, or other materials.
