Title: Coordinator- Special Schools
Number of Positions: 2 (Two)
Reporting to : Programme Manager and in close association with State Head of Office (HoO), UNFPA
Nature of Position : Contractual
Duration : Till December 2023 (with possibility of extension)
(1) Organisation Background
Peopleâs Rural Education Movement (PREM) is a secular, humanitarian, non-political and non-governmental organization working for the development of Adivasi (indigenous), Dalit, Fisher folk and other marginalized communities of Odisha and other states of India. The primary objectives of PREMâs development programmes are to spread education, improve healthcare, implement livelihood initiatives, build capacity for good governance, and promote and protect the rights of children and women among marginalized communities. PREM places an emphasis on innovation for meeting the needs to empower and transform the people by themselves.
Peopleâs Rural Education Movement (PREM) is being supported by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for a specific project on strengthening the work on disability. As part of this project, PREM is looking for young and bright candidates to support the work on inclusive education through a coordinated and concerted work between the special schools and the other schools.
The position entails working with a cluster of schools (special and other schools) to ensure facilitation and implementation of activities and extending support through Life Skills Education.
(2) Job Description/Responsibilities
⢠Support in coordination and facilitation between identified clusters of special and other schools.
⢠Facilitate multi-sectoral coordination and work closely with programme unit to ensure effective implementation of planned activities.
⢠Support in strengthening special schools and institutions working towards welfare of adolescents with disabilities.
⢠Provide support to review and ensure that programmes are rights-based, gender-responsive and inclusive.
⢠Undertake all activities required including liaising and management to ensure provision of quality LSE in special schools.
⢠Support in undertaking training needs assessment of teachers and relevant stakeholders and build their capacity.
⢠Explore and document best practices and models to improve LSE programme.
⢠Support the monitoring mechanisms and undertake regular field visits to monitor the quality and timely implementation of project activities and provide support in the delivery of objective.
⢠Identify gaps and recommend solutions to overcome the issues at the district level/State level.
⢠Conduct weekly/ monthly/quarterly meetings with district officials/stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation.
⢠Undertake all activities required including liaising and management to ensure provision of quality and disability friendly services.
⢠Carry out any other related activities as and when required and as advised.
(3) Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Qualification:
⢠Essential: B.Ed (Special Education) in any category (Full time Course) or equivalent stream and related subjects. M.Ed (Special Education) will be preferred.
Experience:
⢠2-3 years of relevant working experience in disability and education ecosystem.
⢠Demonstrated experience in coordination and programme management specifically in disability related projects is desirable.
⢠Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to draft concise reports and communicate effectively with key stakeholders.
Skills & Competencies
⢠Ability to communicate (read, speak, and write) in Odia, English and Hindi.
⢠Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work in diverse teams.
⢠Ability to develop reports and documentation skills.
⢠Good skills in operating computers and MS Office package
⢠Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
(4) Remuneration
The consolidated remuneration will be Rs. 40,000 per month based on salary history and experience.
