General Background

The OSC: The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) is an international intergovernmental organisation, founded in January 2020 by countries from across the Global South, to “contribute to the equitable, just, and prosperous social transformation of societies by promoting balanced and inclusive education, in order to attain the fundamental rights to liberty, justice, dignity, sustainability, social cohesion, and material and immaterial security for the peoples of the world”.

The main functions of the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Foresight (REEF) are, accordingly, to:

  1. Act as the think tank of the OSC, publishing reports and policy papers, and foster the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and best practices.
  2. Collect, analyse, monitor, and evaluate data to inform policy and practice.
  3. Facilitate transdisciplinary research opportunities and access to knowledge.

Role Summary

The Knowledge Development and Democratisation Section of REEF is responsible for fostering a free and open, collective exchange of ideas, research, and knowledge (from academic and non-academic domains) among Member States and Associate Members (and across the Global South in general).

Under the overall authority of the Secretary General, the guidance of the Under-Secretary-General for Research, Evaluation and Foresight (REEF), and the direct supervision of the Chief of Section of Knowledge Development and Democratisation, Multilateral Initiatives Coordinators work collaboratively to develop and implement collective roadmaps and action plans, based on cross-sectoral consultations, to meet the Section’s goals.

The Multilateral Initiatives Coordinator (Knowledge Development, Exchange, and Partnerships) will be responsible for organizing and leading a series of multilateral initiatives and sectoral consultations to develop new transformational knowledge (including a third, alternative and inclusive way of development), exchange programmes and partnerships among Member States and Associate Members.

Duties

  • Coordinate the convocation of a series of consultations, conferences, and the Congress of the Greater South that will result in the construction of a collective roadmap and action plan to accelerate the construction of a third, alternative and inclusive way of development;
  • Develop congress proceedings into high quality knowledge products;
  • In close consultation with the USG and relevant departments, fosterincreased South-South student exchanges and mobility throughthe OSC’s Framework to Reinforce Exchanges between Youth and Regions Through Education (FREYRE) programme;
  • Organise high level consultation meetings with government officials, NGO leaders, artists, intellectuals, academics, etc.;
  • Prepare and manage programmatic budgets;
  • Develop and submit technical reports and progress reports as required;
  • Plan and manage the necessary activities to fulfill the objectives and KPIs defined by the OSC Strategy, OSC Programme and other official relevant documents;
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Chief of Section, the Under-Secretary-General for REEF or the Secretary General.

Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, and cross-cultural communication skills with a proven track record;
  • Experience in organising high-level conferences and meetings both online and in person;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated experience in writing competent policy reports and executive briefs;
  • Ability to systematise results and prepare executive reports;
  • Strong methodical, systemic, and strategic thinking skills;
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly demanding environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Political astuteness and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and multicultural environment;
  • Strong commitment to the mission and goals of the Organisation of Southern Cooperation;
  • At least eight years of work experience in managing educational internationalisation, exchange programmes, regional or international initiatives, large-scale development initiatives, multi-country research projects or programmes;
  • An advanced university degree in International Studies, Political Science or other related areas. Accredited training in social psychology and/or group dynamics is desirable.

Language Requirements

Candidates must be fluent in English. Knowledge of one or more of the other official languages of the OSC (French, Arabic, Spanish) is a distinct advantage.
