The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking an experienced Senior Research Associate to provide impact in the discovery and application of molecular techniques that support trait selection and genetic enhancement of potato and sweet potato and also create and apply forward and reverse genetic approaches to validate trait-linked genes and quantitative trait loci. Provide leadership within the breeding team.

Within this pluralistic strategy, qualitative social science has a central, and increasing place for explaining human and institutional behavior and assessing benefits and risks for human development. CIP’s work is embedded in the broader global CGIAR research and innovation strategy encompassing the world’s main agro-food systems and priority development challenges. Key responsibilities:

• Guarantee the operational results of the experimental station.

• Execute and lead the molecular breeding and genetic research team of Yanqing Research Center

• Design and create genetic tools and experiments, staying abreast and applying advances in the field

• Work closely with other laboratory personnel to enhance molecular techniques applied across all sections of CCCAP’s research agenda.

• Work closely with the Germplasm Distribution Center for analysis of genetic materials held in trust.

• Identify hazards and assess the risks of the laboratories, implementing measures to prevent, mitigate and reduce the risks. • Keep updated and be responsible for all maintenance issues, calibrations, repairs, and improvements of any material, equipment, space and infrastructure at the laboratories, to ensure equipment works properly at all times.

• Keep updated with all training and certifications required for the optimal management and performance of the laboratories. • Ensure personnel working in the laboratories have been properly trained and supervised in their regular tasks and duties. Ensure all personnel are regularly updated in everything related to Health and Safety on the job.

• Comply with relevant labor, environmental, industrial (if applicable), and health and safety regulations from local, national and international laws, policies and regulations as well as comply with all CIP and CCCAP internal policies and procedures. • In collaboration with CCCAP’s Yanqing Property Facilities Senior Manager, perform the necessary administrative procedures, according to Chinese and CIP/CCCAP standards, rules and regulations, to ensure the proper functioning of the laboratory facilities.

What are we looking for?

• MSc in Biology, Microbiology and/or related Agricultural Sciences specialization.

• At least 8 years of experience in similar position.

• Experience in lab, Gene/QTL discovery and characterization (forward & reverse genetics), molecular applications in plant genetic tools, populations and field-based experiments and people and project management.
