OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The overall goal of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme is to minimize the health consequences of emergencies due to any biological, natural, technological or societal hazard. Collective and sound health emergency and disaster risk management is essential to health security, to sustainable development and to building the resilience of communities, countries and health systems. The objectives of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme are: to help Member States build their capacity to manage health emergency risks and, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to minimize the impact on the health of affected populations as well as the impact on the health system. WHO's Health Emergencies Programme directs all of the Organization's work in health emergency risk management, with an all-hazards approach comprising risk reduction, preparedness, readiness, response and early recovery activities.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The successfulincumbent will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the WHO Somalia Country Office and Health Cluster partners and other relevant stakeholders:1. Contribute to jointly identify critical issues that require cluster and multisectoral responses and help to plan the relevant synergistic interventions.2. Provide technical input to partners through the SHF/HRP/CERF applications and review processes.3. Draft all health Cluster Strategic documents from Humanitarian Response Plans, Donor briefs, Strategic Response Plans, SHF/HRP/CERF projects and Situation Reports4. Provide support to members and partners in developing and maintaining contingency plans for potential adverse health events.5. Prepare background communication and promotional materials for briefings and visit of media, donors and other special interest groups.6. Support the Coordinator to develop and prepare different donor reports and keep timeliness for reporting of different grants working closely with the WR Office.7. Prepare the monthly bulletin and distribute to partners, donors and the Global Health Cluster.8. Collect internal and external reports (e.g. EPI watch, COVID19 sitrep, cholera sitrep), as well as the weekly epidemiological reports, prepare a summary on health updates and upload the data on the cluster website and accordingly share with the partners.9. Identify gaps based on information collected from partners' regular feedback on the consolidated templates and contribute to the overall analysis of the collected health data for priority setting and response plans to address un-covered major gaps10. Recommend inclusion of cross-cutting issues i.e. gender, GBV, disabilities, RMNCAH and PSEAH.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First level University Degree in medicine, nursing, public health or any related health field
Desirable: Training in disaster management/cluster work

Experience

Essential: At least 2 years of relevant experience in emergency related programs and health cluster.
Desirable: International exposure to a relevant field is an asset.

Skills

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1923 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
