As Country Director, you will be the overall manager of the DCA Nepal office and you will be responsible for implementing the country strategy. You will ensure staff welfare and promote a constructive working environment based on DCA’s values. 

DCA Nepal country programme builds on climate resilient and value-based livelihoods work, linking national and international climate advocacy. Humanitarian response, disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and citizen participation in good governance at local level is key. We have ambitious targets for lifting the most vulnerable and marginalised out of poverty, following a gender equality and rights-based approach. Fundraising in a difficult funding environment, will be an essential part of the position and we expect you will explore new ways of working, develop and design innovative project concepts, research- and evidence based, and position DCA Nepal driving new partnerships with donors, the private sector, NGOs and research institutions. 

DCA works through local civil society organisations. DCA in Nepal office currently has 26 staff. You will be based in Kathmandu.

We are expecting you to: 

  • Provide strategic leadership of the country programme in Nepal and to further develop the programme in line with DCA strategy and priorities by working together with partner organisations, building capacity and supporting staff’s development.
  • Be very proactive in fundraising and prioritise enhancing and diversifying the funding portfolio of Nepal office.
  • Represent DCA and proactively build and strengthen relationships in Nepal towards embassies, donors, partners, authorities and other stakeholders. 
  • Maintain an oversight over all financial and administrative matters.
  • Meet DCA organisational performance benchmarks and related deadlines.
  • Engage in proactive communication and media work with constituencies in Denmark.

We are looking for:

  • At least 5 years of proven experience in leadership and results-based management preferably at Country Director level or equivalent position.
  • At least 8-10 years of documented experience in managing development and preferably also humanitarian programmes.
  • Proven experience with successful fundraising, building consortia and diverse donor/partner relations as well as advocacy.
  • Experience in working with innovative programming, market linkage/ value chain and private sector engagement, digital solutions, gender and youth empowerment, good governance, as well as working with local partners and social movements.
  • Cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff and create a conductive work environment.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and commitment to getting the job done.
  • Relevant academic education at Master’s level.
  • Fluency in English – oral as well as written

We offer:

A three-year contract starting as soon as possible.
