Mission and objectives

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Department responsible for strengthening international human rights mechanisms; enhancing equality and countering discrimination; combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law; integrating human rights in development and in the economic sphere; widening the democratic space; and early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity.

Context

The United Nations Human Rights Office’s (OHCHR) programme unite4rights on women and sport aims to develop research work, policy, and institutional support for sport organizations as well as technical cooperation programme with its field operations, in line with its mandate to promote and protect the rights of all, particularly of women and girls through and in sport. In this context, OHCHR seeks the support of two Online Volunteers to map organizations’ work, funding opportunities and partnership options. For this purpose, OHCHR assesses the work and mandate of entities and organizations working on women and sport. The mapping exercise concerns and is not limited to research institutes, United Nations and related mechanisms, foundations, and philanthropic organizations. The objective is in the end to identify the comparative advantage of OHCHR’s work on the subject matter and identify suitable options for resource mobilization and partnership building. The following subtopics should be considered: participation of women and girls in sport, women representation in leadership positions, media coverage and gender-based violence.

Task description

1. We need a volunteer to help us draw up a map of the various entities, clearly highlighting their mandate, their areas of intervention and the research carried out by the entities identified on the sub-topics mentioned below. 2. We need another volunteer to develop a database on options for resource mobilization and partnership building in the area. The task is based on internet research. The mapping will be used to inform and tailor OHCHR’s unite4rights programme on women and sport, for application for project financing and establishment of partnerships. Online Volunteers will not be asked to contact any third parties or donors.
