Mission and objectives

Under Resolution 2677 (2023), the Security Council determined that the situation in South Sudan continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security in the region. The Council extended the UNMISS mandate until 15 March 2024. It also emphasized that the Mission should continue advancing its three-year strategic vision defined in resolution 2567 (2021) to prevent a return to civil war, build durable peace and support inclusive, accountable governance as well as free, fair and peaceful elections in accordance with the Revitalized Peace Agreement. Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, UNMISS is therefore authorized to use all necessary means to implement its mandate which includes: (a) Protection of civilians (b) Creating conditions conducive to the delivery of humanitarian assistance (c) Supporting the Implementation of the Revitalised Agreement and the Peace Process (d) Monitoring, investigating, and reporting on violations of humanitarian and human rights law The overall ceiling for uniformed personnel is maintained at 17,000 troops and 2,101 police, including 88 corrections officers. Context

Centralized Warehouses intends to fill up a vacancy for Pharmacist, Medical Warehouse in Juba. The primary objective of the Medical Warehouse in Juba is to support the Mission and all its components; military, police and civilian personnel by ensuring the timely delivery of medical commodities in a cost-effective manner. Medical Warehouse is responsible for strengthening stewardship and accountability of UN Medical property (financial and non-financial Assets & Inventories) while achieving greater efficiencies and economies of scale; and striking a balance between controlling and enabling flexibility in running daily operations. In the absence of the said staff in Juba, an ability to ensure operational efficiency of supply chain functions will be limited due to manpower constraints, therefore the requirement placed to support UNMISS operations with adequate manpower.

Task description

• Develop, update, and implement a mission list for drugs and medical consumables, based on the generic drugs produced according to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. • Maintain a system for ongoing inspections of drug safety in the Medical Stores located in the Logistic Base in Juba. • Offer day-to-day advice on pharmaceutical issues. • Advice the Medical Administrator/Requisitioner on the specification of drugs to be requisitioned. • Offer a prudent scale of issue for planning of re-supply. • Contribute to the facilitation of an unimpeded supply of drugs, medical consumables, vaccines, condoms (male and female), blood, etc. in the mission. • Monitor the consumption of drugs, laboratory reagents, medical and surgical consumables at the various Level-1 Clinics in the Mission area. • Assist the health team in the treatment and side effect monitoring. • Store and record keeping of stocks. • Support the implementation of proper storage of medicine sand medical supplies, including the setting of appropriate stores temperature, space and safety procedures. • Accounting for the applicable medical supplies and equipment according to recommended guidelines. • Carry out relevant and regular reporting on demand by Chief Centralized Warehouses and Chief Logistic Base. • Ensure database accuracy for the movement of stock in the Medical Stores. When discrepancies are noted, initiating investigation and correction of data base records as required. • Perform any other related tasks as required.
