We are looking for enthusiastic Regulatory Officers who have knowledge and professional experience in several different areas of work such as Risk Management, Chemical Engineering, and/or Materials Science.
Successful candidates will contribute to ECHA’s Integrated Regulatory Strategy, identifying chemicals of concern and implementing appropriate regulatory action, in particular REACH restrictions and authorisations. Regulatory Officers may also work on the implementation of the new tasks that will come to ECHA, such as the Regulation on batteries and waste batteries, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), or the Drinking Water Directive (DWD). In addition, it is likely that ECHA will take on new tasks under several Directives related to surface or groundwater protection.
The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated and experienced professional, who has experience from working in industry or authorities implementing international, regional, national or company wide risk management, or with knowledge of exposure assessments. S/he will also have excellent project management skills, is solution-oriented and proactive, and has the drive to produce high-quality results within the given timelines.
The successful candidate(s) will work mainly in the Risk Management or Prioritisation & Integration Directorates of the Agency in multidisciplinary teams tasked with assessing scientific and technical information in support of one or several work areas, such as those given below, depending on their specific competencies and skills:
• Identify chemicals of concern to determine the subsequent risk management measures required;
• Assess use(s) and resulting exposures to chemicals, specific to the relevant legislation and process, contributing to risk assessment;
• Identify risks of chemical substances and prepare proposals for risk management measures – in particular, restrictions under REACH, RoHS, or batteries directive;
• Develop watch lists and priority lists of substances under the water directives mentioned above;
• Assess applications for the Drinking Water Directive European Positive List;
• Assess applications for exemption for RoHS and applications for authorisation under REACH;
• Provide scientific and technical support to ECHAs two scientific committees on risk assessment and socio-economic analysis when they provide opinions to the European Commission;
• Develop methods, tools, and procedures to support the implementation of the REACH and other chemicals legislation.
