Mission and objectives

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 166 countries, working with national counterparts on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. UNDP Iraq is part of the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Iraq, which is comprised of 16 resident and 4 non-resident agencies. The UNCT is part of the integrated mission with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), established in 2003. UNDP works alongside the UNCT to strengthen coordinated actions with the overall aim of achieving the SDGs and the 2030 agenda. UNDP-Iraq has set up a dedicated team on Environment, Energy and Climate Change (EECC) to support the Government of Iraq in responding to energy, climate, environment, and development challenges. Overall UNDP Environment, Energy and Climate Change team works in collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Electricity and a range of other relevant institutions, international partners, and civil society to achieve climate-resilient and low-carbon development and growth. Under the overall guidance and supervision of Environment, Energy and Climate Change Portfolio Manager, the National Volunteer to Support on Climate Change and Environment for COP28 support with performing a variety of standard administrative, technical, and logistic tasks related to the COP28 preparation
