Nurse Mentor (1 Positions)
India Health Action Trust (IHAT) works towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programs to improve population health. We work closely with the Government of India and state governments to achieve its public health goals. Our work is focused on areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive Maternal Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. Our work is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
IHAT has set up multiple Technical Support Units (TSU) for the Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Delhi and an Innovation Hub in Madhya Pradesh to provide techno-managerial assistance and coordinate with the Governments, Non-Government Agencies, Academic Institutions, and Communities.
About Program:
India Health Action Trust in partnership with the HCL Foundation is implementing a program to âImprove Maternal and Newborn Outcomes in Tribal Areas of Madhya Pradeshâ. The program, under the guidance of NHM-Government of Madhya Pradesh, will work across community, facility and health systems levels to pilot effective and scalable models. It will work towards building capacity of frontline works and clinical staff while also streamlining process to improve availability quality and utilization of MNCH services.
Position: Nurse Mentor (1 Position)
Location: Sohagpur Block, Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh
Reporting to: District Program Manager-IHAT, Shahdol
Travel Requirement: The position requires the candidate to travel within the block to facilitate mentoring during outreach
Job Summary:
The Nurse Mentor will be critical in driving improvement in quality processes in the facility. The Nurse Mentor is expected to work at the health facilities at district/block/ sub-block level to interact with the health facility staff, facilitate self-assessment exercises and action planning, identify mentoring needs and provide onsite mentoring to facility and outreach staff providing MNCH services. The position requires the candidate to travel within the block to facilitate mentoring during outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the District Program Manager, Chief Block Medical Officer, Facility in Charge â Medical officer.
⢠Conduct facility assessment to identify gaps in provision of MNCH services; develop micro-plans to plug gaps and improve availability and quality of services
⢠Conduct skills assessment of Nurses/ANMs; develop mentoring plans to improve quality of services in the facility
⢠Support the establishment of Mini Skill Labs in the facility and ensure the lab is maintained as utilized as per plan.
⢠Mentor Staff Nurses and ANMs to improve knowledge, skills and practices resulting in improved quality of MNCH services across the continuum of care in the facility
⢠Mentor ANMs to improve identification, line listing and tracking of high risk pregnancies during VHNDs
⢠Support the facility and outreach staff in improving quality of data for services provided
Competencies and performance criteria for Position:
Technical Competencies:
⢠Technical knowledge and experience in public health; experience in maternal, newborn and child health programs would be strong asset
⢠Experience working with government/development agency in facility-based and community based intervention
⢠Good understanding of quality improvement process
⢠Demonstrated analytics skills
⢠Good understanding of Indian health care system with knowledge of Madhya Pradesh context at the district and community level.
⢠Excellent computer skills (MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
⢠Fluency in written and spoken English and Knowledge of local language.
Behavioral Competencies:
⢠Experience with mentoring, team building, and facilitation approaches
⢠Leadership and organization skill
⢠Ethnic, cultural, gender, religious, and socioeconomic status sensitivity
⢠Must be flexible and able to work in a challenging environment.
Job requirements:
Experience:
⢠Minimum 3-5 years of work experience after graduation (BSc nursing) or Post graduation (MSc nursing)
⢠Candidates with experience in the area of MNCH will be preferred
⢠Required: Candidates must have clinical experience (preferably in obstetric and neonatal nursing care)
Education:
⢠Required: Candidates must have BSc/MSc nursing Degree in OB & GY
⢠MSc. Nursing will be preferred
