Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of National Health Operation Officer and the direct supervision of Medical Officer/MHU team Leader and the Heads of Sub-Office in the assigned province, the incumbent will assist in ensuring basic medical screening is carried out, particularly in the areas of reproductive, maternal and child health care. Critical medical cases will be referred for additional services through partners and private hospital partners, the Nurse will assist in ensuring basic medical screening is carried out, particularly in the areas of reproductive, maternal and child health care. S/he is expected to carry out her/his duties in accordance with strictest ethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities.

Role objectives

1.Assist Medical Doctor in proper identification, reviewing of the medical history, and reviewing of examination results during community outreach and static border facility consultations.

2.Assist Medical Doctor in registration of patients, preparing the monthly and daily schedule of health teams in collaboration with local government stakeholders and the Health Cluster and partners.

3.Assist in the management of suspected relevant patients, referral for relevant treatment and follow up.

4.Record all relevant health data in standard forms and ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the medical record.

5.Assist in coordinating with basic health staff, the laboratories, and other officers in respective areas.

6.Assist in the preparation of medical box; prepare the drugs and material and check the stock and replenish weekly.

7.Support in the Data Collection and daily reporting, and document patient’s services by updating patient register and other records regularly.

8.Assist in outreach health programmes, coordinate with Health NGO partner and volunteers, and support them in community health preventive activities.  

9.Maintain daily checklist of all medical and delivery equipment and medicines to ensure that all medical kits are ready and fully stocked, with all medical supplies organized, listed, and within the expiration period.

10.Ensure operation of medical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques

11.Assist Medical Doctor in identifying priority health needs and other activities including regular diseases outbreak monitoring, collecting statistical information, take part in health awareness campaign, etc.

12.Assist in medicine dispensing, record keeping, medicine stock management and reporting, and preparing medicine requisition.

Education

Diploma in Nursing from an accredited academic institution with 6-months experience.

Experience

·At least 6 months experience in relevant clinical fields.

·Previous experience in international organization is an advantage. Knowledge and experience with working in the field and medical emergency department and Trauma management will be added as advantage.

·Effectively applies knowledge on clinical skills, bedside manner, infection control, administering medication, phlebotomy, maintenance etc.

·Adequate practical knowledge on handling child delivery and its complication

·Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

Fluency in Dari and Pashto
