Mission and objectives
UNDP’s Global Programme on Nature for Development brings together three different initiatives under one program – the Equator Initiative, the National Biodiversity Initiative, and the Global Forest Initiative – in order to identify, foster, showcase and celebrate nature-based solutions that help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at local, national and international levels. The work of the Global Programme on Nature for Development contributes to UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2014-2017 by charting sustainable development pathways through the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems; and by promoting inclusive and effective democratic governance in the area of natural resources.
Context
The NBSAP Forum is a global partnership aiming to support countries in implementing the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and its strategic plans, including global biodiversity targets. To achieve this, CBD Parties are required to develop and implement national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), including national targets, and integrate them into relevant sectoral and cross-sectoral plans, programmes and policies, and submit national reports on the effectiveness of measures taken to implement the NBSAP. The purpose of the web portal is to support countries in finding the information they need to develop and implement effective NBSAPs and prepare national reports. The Forum pages are currently only available in English and UNDP seeks to translate them in French, Russian and Spanish.
Task description
UNDP is looking for one Online Volunteer to proofread the Russian translation of the Quick Guides for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. These guides provide an overview of the main actions and issues addressed under each target of the GBF and will be posted on the NBSAP Forum. Volunteers will be introduced to the work of the Learning for Nature team at UNDP and will collaborate with other volunteers on the team. Volunteers will work under the guidance and supervision of the Project Assistant.
