Diakonia is a faith-based Swedish development organization that supports and work with around 400 local partner organizations in 25 countries. There are country offices in most countries where they have partner organizations. The regional offices are located in Bogotá, Nairobi, Jerusalem and Chiang-Mai. The head office is located in Sweden. Together with their partner organizations, they form a global network that works to ensure that more people are able to live dignified lives.
Three different components
Diakonia's work can be roughly divided into three different components:
1. Cooperation with their partner organizations and support for their long term work on change
2. Popular education, mobilisation and advocacy in Sweden and internationally
3. Humanitarian emergency response in collaboration with partner organizations in the affected areas.
