CTBTO offers a limited number of internships based on anticipated needs.

Prospective interns must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have completed at least two years of full-time study at a university or equivalent institution that will lead to the award of a degree, and have excellent command of written and spoken English. Interns are not considered staff members and are taken on only as and when the need arises.

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) bans nuclear explosions by everyone, everywhere: on the Earth’s surface, in the atmosphere, underwater and underground.

Why is this important?

It makes it very difficult for countries to develop nuclear bombs for the first time, or for countries that already have them, to make more powerful bombs. It also prevents the huge damage caused by radioactivity from nuclear explosions to humans, animals and plants.

Many attempts were made during the Cold War to negotiate a comprehensive test ban, but it was only in the 1990s that the Treaty became a reality. The CTBT was negotiated in Geneva between 1994 and 1996.

CTBTO’s interns contribute to the work of our technical divisions responsible for the International Monitoring System, International Data Centre, and On-Site Inspection. Interns acquire experience in the areas of data analysis, engineering as well as operational and technical inspection support services. Internships are also available in legal affairs, external relations, public information, and human resources.

All internships take place at CTBTO Headquarters in Vienna, Austria where you will be immersed in a multicultural, diverse, inclusive, and international environment.
