About us

Global Child Forum brings together thought leaders and influencers from business, civil society, academia and government in order to spur action for social change around children’s rights. In particular, we focus on the power of business to be a driver of change, and we encourage businesses to take approaches in their operations and their communities that best advance children’s rights.

Our work is underpinned by the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Children’s Rights and Business Principles as well as by our own research and tools.

The Global Child Forum is a Swedish non-profit foundation with headquarters in the heart of Stockholm.

How we work

One key element of our approach is our international Forums. Held in Sweden and regionally in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, the Forums are a multi-stakeholder platform to exchange best practices, foster learning and provoke conversations that lead to solutions for some of the most pressing issues facing the world’s 2 billion children. Action can be in the form of initiating innovative approaches, catalysing new partnerships, encouraging companies to replicate successful initiatives and policies and providing tools and research to support change.

By bringing together CEOs and Directors-General, academics and parliamentarians, leaders and learners, we spark action around children’s rights –  particularly among the business sector. Our Forums set the scene with thought-provoking speakers, dynamic plenary panels and interactive, solution-driven ActionLab sessions.

Knowledge & Tools

Knowledge ignites action. That’s why we base our work in research.  We bring forward studies, tools and best practices that illustrate what business can do to safeguarding children’s rights. With the support of our partners, Global Child Forum initiates and produces analysis and tools that help business assess and address children’s rights issues in their operations and environments. These research tools are part of our objective to raise crucial global awareness, new thinking and cross-sector dialogue regarding children’s rights.

Our beginnings

Global Child Forum was initiated by H.M. the King and H.M. the Queen of Sweden in 2009 as part of their long-standing commitment to children’s issues. Originally called The World Child and Youth Forum, the organization’s name was later shortened to Global Child Forum in 2012.

Since the organisation’s founding, the Royal Family has maintained a strong and active role in Global Child Forum, participating in both our regional and global forums.

To date, we have had eight Forums – five global forums at the Stockholm Royal Palace and three regional forums in the Middle East and North Africa, Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. Our next Forum will be held in Brazil in 2017 for the South America region.

In addition to our Forums, our work is augmented by a growing repository of research and case studies.
