Mission and objectives

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nations' global development network. UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience to sustain development results.

Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) serves as the global development arm of the United Nations, advocating for positive change and facilitating connections between nations to share knowledge, expertise, and resources for the betterment of people's lives. In Uganda, UNDP collaborates closely with the government and various partners to advance sustainable development agendas, foster inclusive governance, and address poverty and inequality. In the culturally and naturally diverse Karamoja region in northeastern Uganda, UNDP is actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting peace and stability, and strengthening resilience to challenges such as climate change. Historically burdened by poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to essential services, Karamoja stands as a primary focus area for UNDP's interventions. The organization actively supports agriculture, women's economic empowerment, livelihood improvement, and the prevention of gender-based violence in the region. Furthermore, UNDP engages in efforts related to peacebuilding, governance, sustainable management of minerals, responsible tourism development, and adaptation to climate change in Karamoja. As part of the UNDP Karamoja Field Coordination Office team, the Officer plays a pivotal role in providing day-to-day support for project management in the region. They also establish connections with local stakeholders and communities while undertaking responsibilities related to project monitoring.
