Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Officer (Junior) for Climate Adaptation Support Activity – US based Remote

The USAID-funded Climate Adaptation Support Activity (CASA), implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs - Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest for a Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Officer to support CASA activities with the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA). The position can be fully remote from a continental US-based location or hybrid/remote within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Burlington, VT or Arlington, VA.

Position Description: The Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Officer will provide technical and operational expertise as part of the core CASA team supporting the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA)’s Bureau Environment Officer (BEO) and Climate Integration Lead (CIL) in the implementation of the tasks above. Under the guidance and supervision of the Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Advisor and in coordination with the other relevant CASA team member, the Officer will:

• Support BHA’s strategic engagement and partnerships related to climate resilient humanitarian action.
• Provide technical support to integrate climate risk management (CRM) and equitable and inclusive climate adaptation into BHA’s programming, particularly reviewing Resilience and Food Security Activity (RFSA) documentation and working with programming teams to strengthen CRM approach.
• Develop communications and training materials to advance knowledge and mainstreaming of climate risk management, climate adaptation, and climate resilient humanitarian action within BHA and with BHA’s implementing partners.
• Provide strategic support to advance BHA’s support to mainstreaming climate equity and justice in humanitarian action.

The above tasks will be conducted in close coordination with USAID Missions, Washington, and partners and in line with relevant USAID policies and frameworks.

As part of the core team supporting BHA with the above tasks, the Officer will be expected to work closely with other team members and provide support as needed to ongoing tasks related to climate risk management, integration of climate equity and justice, and other areas as needed.

This position is a one-year (12 month), full-time assignment.

Responsibilities:

* Provide overall management support to the CASA team supporting BHA including helping to identify and define activities and client needs, leading the coordination conferences and events, and supporting day-to-day implementation under the leadership of the Climate Resilient Humanitarian Action Advisor.

* Draft, develop, and/or edit technical deliverables as part of the CASA team supporting BHA – including, for example, briefing notes, blog posts, policy documents, research products, climate risk management document reviews, etc.

* Lead client management, in coordination with the Climate Resilient Humanitarian Advisor, by designing meeting agendas, developing quarterly work plans, and distributing relevant notes and take-aways.

* Respond to USAID comments on technical deliverables and update as needed.

* Attend and contribute to meetings with USAID and partners.

* Respond to other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in international development, climate or environmental studies, communications, sociology, or relevant field.

* Minimum 4 years’ experience working in climate change adaptation and resilience, humanitarian action, climate justice, or relevant fields.

* Experience with humanitarian organizations and familiarity with climate considerations in the context of humanitarian response.

* Professional proficiency in English is required.

* Ability to travel internationally.

* Current US work authorization is required at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience providing technical support to complex USAID-funded programs and familiarity with USAID policies preferred.

* Experience developing climate adaptation policy and programming preferred.

* A history of collaboration and fostering inclusive, equitable, locally led climate change adaptation activities.

* Proficiency in Spanish or French.
