Mission and objectives

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. As the UN’s development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Context

UNDP Burundi is developing its new Cooperation Programme to start in 2024, and Governance is one of the pillars of this new four-year document. Four focus areas were defined for the Governance pillar: i) Accountability and anti-corruption ii) Access to Justice, rule of law, Human Rights, social cohesion, and civic participation iii) Strategic planning and structural transformation and diversification of the econo-my for SDGs acceleration iv) Local governance and access to quality basic services The Programme is to be analyzed and approved through the September session . Will then follow the CPD roll out, i.e., the development of projects/portfolios and the resource mobilization for their operationalization.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Governance and Rule of Law, and in collaboration with the whole Governance team, the Programme Associate will participate into the resource mobilization process and offer technical support for the projects’ implementation. The person will specifically contribute, but not limited to the sectors of Peace and Reconciliation, and Civic Participation. The key tasks are the following: 1. Support the resource and partners mobilization initiatives. • Collect information on potential donors’ programs for the Governance sector. • Propose concept notes for specific donors and collaboration strategies with some partners! • Organize meetings and produce required contents with identified partners. 2. Provide technical support during the startup and implementation phases of the projects/portfolios of the sector of peace and reconciliation, Civic participation. • Propose ToRs for the designed positions and other startup actions. • Liaise with the operation and other support units. • Participate in the discussion on the activities’ implementation and other initiatives re-garding the projects/portfolios’ implementation. • Keep the record on monitoring and quality assurance actions and support project programme and project managers on these actions. 3. If required by the UNDP management and the Supervisor, accomplish any other role related to the competences: • Take notes during program and other meetings. • Contribute to the Country Office for Gender Equality and effort for a zero-harassment environment. • Participate in UNV activities and initiatives if required and relevant.
