India has the world’s largest population and a large number of highly educated citizens.

In the most recent country representation release of the United Nations, India is considered over-represented, which closes all doors for Indian nationals to be selected for a staff position (FTA) at the UN secretariat.

Hence, for now, it is not worth the effort for Indian nationals to apply for a staff position at the UN Secretariat position.

In this article, I will explain what over-representation means to Indian nationals.

Where you can find out if you are under- or over-represented.

I will also provide examples of different career paths to help Indian Nationals to focus on other UN career doors that are still open.

When applying for a job at the United Nations it is imperative to know about the quota system. If you are interested in how quotas are calculated, I recommend you read this article too.

Knowledge about the quota system can make your job hunt more strategic and allow you to target job opportunities where Indians have a realistic chance.
