If your applications have gone quiet this year, the arithmetic, not your CV, is the first thing to look at.

The UN Secretariat is reducing staff positions by 21% in 2026 under the UN80 initiative (UN News, 28 May 2026), while the hiring platform Greenhouse reports an average of 254 applicants per posting and a 412% rise in applications per recruiter (Fortune, 27 July 2026). Fewer doors, far more people knocking. The good news is that this kind of market rewards a specific kind of applicant: precise, evidenced, and human.
