How to promote yourself after your 50s?

Age limitations are in place for specific programs in this sector, for example the United Nations JPOs. Some international organizations may have regulations that enforce a compulsory retirement age, which prevents individuals who are close to or exceed that age from being eligible for the position.

 

Individuals who are over 50 years old and seeking new employment may face the perception of being mature job seekers, which puts them at risk of being overlooked as potential candidates. This assumption can lead companies and organizations to miss out on the valuable expertise and extensive work experience that these individuals can bring to their respective fields. If you belong to this professional group, it is important to recognize and effectively communicate your strengths and qualifications. To start with a few tips, we recommend these minor adjustments in your CV: 

  1. Be familiar with the Organizations retirement policies - The United Nations system is one example of an employer with a mandatory retirement age: between 60 and 65 depending on when the staff member was hired. This does not completely leave you out either. We share recommendations below.
