What Was Your Background Prior to Joining CTBTO?
I have a background in electrical engineering, project management, and infrastructure maintenance through progressively responsible roles across the United Nations and the Agency. My career began in 2012 with ETCO Nig Limited, where I managed electrical installations for large-scale construction projects for seven years.
In 2019, I moved to The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), where I worked as an Electrical Engineering Specialist, ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical systems supporting key operations. After my tenure with MONUSCO in 2023, I joined the World Food Programme (WFP) as a Project Engineer, where I took on greater leadership responsibilities, managing diverse electrical engineering projects.
In 2024, I joined CTBTO in Vienna as a Maintenance Engineer, where I focus on maintaining the efficiency and reliability of critical PTS infrastructures.
What Motivates You to Do the Work You Do?
I have found my Electrical Engineering skills to be particularly useful in the improvement of the operations of any organization I engage with. This knowledge fuels my motivation to keep finding innovative ways to refine my skills, empowering me to serve more effectively and efficiently.
Besides my technical skills, I am motivated by the knowledge I gain in engaging in administrative activities which grace me with the knowledge of resolving complex challenges with a more structured approach and efficiency.
From Your Perspective, What Set of Skills Do You Find Valuable for Your Current Work at CTBTO? Any Tips You Can Share with Potential Applicants Considering Joining CTBTO?
To thrive in CTBTO, one must adapt to a new technological environment, especially if your background is in electrical engineering like mine. One must desire continuous learning, collaborative spirit and problem-solving skills.
Fortunately, CTBTO provides a space for hands-on training to equip staff with the necessary expertise in its specialized equipment operating procedures. Additionally, it is important to be a team player and willing to share your knowledge, as these are fundamental in the operations of CTBTO.
How Are You Working with Impact in Your View?
Working with impact means aligning one's objective to the organizational goal to create meaningful and positive changes. In my work, I consistently find opportunities to add value, be it in the improvement of power systems of a facility or repair of equipment which positively impact the operations of the PTS. Working with impact for me in CTBTO means incorporating innovation with accountability, ensuring that my work not only meets the immediate needs but lays a groundwork for sustainable long-term success.
What Are You Most Grateful for in This Work?
I am most grateful for the collaborative and innovative culture in CTBTO. It’s refreshing to work in an environment that values diverse ideas and continuous learning—qualities that really resonate with my own values. I value the opportunities for professional and personal growth which not only motivates me to take on new challenges but also encourages me to bring fresh innovative ideas to my team.
In general, it is intriguing and exciting to contribute to the CTBTO objective that makes a tangible impact in the world we live in today and that positive, forward-thinking energy is what I truly value.
