Join Us at the Impactpool Virtual Career Fair for African Nationals 2025

Are you passionate about transforming agriculture, improving food security, and making a lasting impact in Africa? The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) invites you to explore career opportunities where your skills and ideas can drive real change.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo - CIMMYT) is a world-renowned research-for-development organization dedicated to improving livelihoods, strengthening food security, and fostering sustainable agriculture through science and innovation. Established in 1966, CIMMYT’s name reflects its mission to improve maize and wheat for a more food-secure world and now is expanding its knowledge to other relevant crops.

Headquartered in Mexico, CIMMYT works across more than 40 countries, with deep and long-standing partnerships throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our work supports smallholder farmers, strengthens national research systems, and addresses the most pressing challenges of our time—climate change, land degradation, malnutrition, and inequality—by improving two of the world's most important staple crops: maize and wheat.

At CIMMYT we believe that people drive change. As we work to achieve our 2030 Strategy, we are excited to participate in the Impactpool Virtual Career Fair for African Nationals 2025, connecting with passionate professionals across Africa who are ready to make a global impact through agricultural innovation.

Why does African talent matter to CIMMYT?

Africa is at the heart of CIMMYT’s mission. With its rapidly growing population, climate vulnerabilities, and evolving food systems, the continent plays a pivotal role in shaping sustainable agricultural practices that feed the world. At the same time, Africa is home to extraordinary talent, local knowledge, and innovation that are essential for building resilient, inclusive, and productive food systems.

CIMMYT is proud to have long-standing collaborations with governments, research institutions, and farming communities across Africa—from Ethiopia and Kenya to Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and beyond. We work hand-in-hand with African partners to co-create climate-smart technologies, improve seed systems, promote conservation agriculture, and strengthen food security across the continent.

By joining CIMMYT, you will:

  • Develop Cutting-Edge Skills: Gain hands-on experience in crop breeding, digital agriculture, soil health, and socioeconomics.

  • Make a Tangible Impact: Work directly with farmers to implement sustainable agricultural practices that increase yields and resilience.

  • Collaborate on Global Projects: Partner with top scientists, policymakers, and innovators to drive food system transformation across Africa and beyond.

  • Grow Your Career: Access world-class training, mentorship, and leadership opportunities in an organization committed to professional development.

What You’ll Work On CIMMYT’s 2030 Strategy aligns with five strategic pillars that directly impact Africa:

  • Climate Action and Mitigation: Develop drought- and heat-resistant maize, wheat, and sorghum varieties to help farmers adapt to climate change.

  • Resilient Agri-Food Systems: Promote conservation agriculture and regenerative farming practices that protect soil and water resources.

  • Nutrition and Health: Improve crop diversity and food quality to tackle malnutrition and enhance community well-being.

  • Inclusive Markets and Livelihoods: Strengthen value chains, create job opportunities, and empower smallholder farmers and agripreneurs.

  • Genetic Innovation for Impact: Leverage cutting-edge biotechnology and digital tools to revolutionize agricultural productivity.

Africa is a central focus for all five pillars. Whether it’s breeding maize, wheat and sorghum varieties that withstand heat and drought, scaling conservation agriculture to reduce land degradation, or supporting the next generation of African scientists and entrepreneurs—Africa is where strategy meets action.
