The webinar will be applicable to Medical Doctors with clinical experience, Nurses, Laboratory Technicians and other health professions candidates.
Women and candidates from underrepresented nationalities (Latin America and Caribbean, Europe and CIS, Asia and Pacific are especially encouraged to join the webinar.
You will be able to get more information from the recruiter on how to apply, current opportunities and what are the eligibility criteria, as well as learn from currently serving UNV Medical Doctors in UNMISS and UNAMA.
Kindly note that the contents of the webinar will be specifically focusing on Medical professionals.
Critera to join UNV as a Medical Doctor, Nurse, or Lab technician
Medical Doctors:
- University Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB.BS or MD), minimum 3 years of experience
- Valid certification in Advanced Trauma Life support, Advanced cardiac Life support or Prehospital trauma life support is highly desirable
- Experience in HIV care or VCCT is desirable
- License validity must cover the deployment period.
Nurses:
- BSc Nursing, minimum 3 years of experience
- The incumbent must be a registered professional Nurse and a holder of first-level university degree from an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program or its equivalent (such as an accredited Diploma Program of not less than 4 years duration)
- The incumbent must be certified and registered to practice in his/her home country or another UN member state.
- License validity must cover the deployment period.
Laboratory Technicians:
- Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Science).
- Registered Medical Technologist with 5 to 7 years work experience.
The panelists
Efterpi Chouridou is born in Greece, where she graduated from Medical School, received the title of General Surgeon and completed a Master’s Degree in Surgery and a PhD in Medicine. She also received the Certificate of Pedagogics and Teaching Sufficiency and presently is completing a Master’s Degree in Health Policy and Planning. She worked as an educator at different vocational colleges and institutions in Greece and as a laboratory tutor of the Anatomy Department at the Obstetrical School of Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki. As surgeon, she worked in the Private and Public sector in Greece and completed a clinical fellowship at Trauma Directorate of Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto, SA. From 2008 until 2017 she was working with MSF and ICRC, undertaking missions in conflict areas around the world (DRC, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, CAR, Yemen, Iraq). She has participated in numerous international training courses and workshops regarding pre-hospital care, U/S, trauma, war surgery, plastic/ reconstructive, ortho-, neuro- and hand surgery. She is an active ATLS, PHTLS, DSTC and MUSEC instructor. Currently, she is serving as a UNV surgeon with UNMISS (United Nations Mission in South Sudan).
Phanuel Tawanda Gwinji, MD, MPH, IPFPH is currently working with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) as a UNV Medical Doctor (MERT Medical Officer). He has 10 years working experience in the Medical field in both pre- hospital and hospital settings, bedside clinical medicine as well as community- based practice (Public health). Phanuel holds a MD as well as MPH- Field Epidemiology degrees. He is currently reading for an MBA, as well as a NEBOSH qualification in Occupational Safety and Health and examinations with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. Phanuel has worked as a Vaccination Campaign doctor, District Medical Offer, Public Health Officer, Government Medical Officer, Resident Medical Officer, EMS and Flight doctor, and has been regularly involved in and facilitated a number of trainings in which he is an instructor including BLS, Primary Trauma Care, BEMOnC and VMMC
Sandra Le Gray is currently an Operation Associate in Volunteer Recruitment at the United Nations HQ in Bonn, Germany. She has over 20 years of extensive experience in recruitment and talent management of volunteers who serve in many UN missions and agencies. A Croatian native, she started in the UN system in 1993 when she first joined the UN Department of Peacekeeping in Zagreb, during the war in Croatia. Before joining the United Nations Volunteers programme in Bonn as a Recruitment Associate, Sandra served two and a half years as a UN Volunteer in Timor Leste with the UN Department of Peacekeeping and the United Nations Development Programme, managing the recruitment of volunteers. Sandra has a long history of experience in recruitment and is passionate about volunteering, networking, human resources and leadership. Sandra also contributed to two transformational processes in UNV and is currently involved in their ongoing Digital Transformation project. In addition to her professional role in the recruitment and management of volunteers, she is presently completing an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability.
