Overview of position

CTG is looking for a qualified Satellite Technician for our operations. This role is being advertised for talent pool building purposes, once the project goes live, only those candidates that are shortlisted will be contacted.

Role objectives

Install, maintain & troubleshooting all the range of equipment & antennae associated with satellite earth stations & be familiar with monitoring & controls hardware & software tools. The equipment the staff will be tasked to install, operate & maintain includes but not limited to:

  • A full range of C - band & KU - band satellite earth stations.

  • These earth station include VSAT & standard terminals, both fixes & transportable in the range of 1.8 to 9 meters.

Working knowledge of:

  • Satellite C - band & KU - band RF terminals as HPA's, SSPA's, RF converters.

  • UP / down converters, transceivers, LNA, LNB & LNC.

  • IP based satellite systems.

  • Hands on familiarity with satellite terminals & related electronic equipment.

Experience in test equipment as:

  • Spectrum analyser, power & frequency, counter, data comms test set.

  • Experience in video conference equipment & relates interfaces.

  • Experience uninterruptible power supply & on line power supply.

The list of duties the staff would be expected to perform includes, but not limited to:

  • Satellite earth station installations, which will include construction & verification test with intelsat standards.

  • All cabling necessary, including outside plant, to interconnect the earth station to the PABX & other data terminal equipment.

  • On an as & when required basis, communications mast / tower rigging.

  • Maintenance of the cabling plant for the earth station.

  • Maintenance & operation of the earth station.

  • Standby Satellite Technician as when required.

Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies
  • The Technician should have a working knowledge of intra & internetworking concepts in so far as it applies to telephony & data communications.

  • Must have at least 5 years working experience working on this type of equipment & in addition to having appropriate technical college certificates.

  • Must have a national drivers licence for a light motor vehicle.

  • Fluency in English, both written & oral is required.

This role has no team management responsibility.
