Shram Sarathi is a specialized financial institution providing financial services, counselling and guidance to migration-dependent workers and households. Through a range of innovative products, Shram Sarathi offers credit, emergency financing, financial fraud protection and advisory services to migrant workers and their families. It works directly in tribal regions of South Rajasthan and operates within the larger ecosystem of migration support offered by the Aajeevika Bureau. Shram Sarathi is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Research Fellow to drive research on financial inclusion for migrant, tribal communities in south Rajasthan. Building new knowledge on financial lives and behavior of migrant communities will contribute to creating new interventions and discourse to promote responsible finance for resource poor populations.
As a Senior Research Fellow, the candidate must be well equipped to conceptualize research, design and develop tools, analyse data and write up findings for a wide range of research, policy and practice audience. We are looking for candidates with strong quantitative skills combined with the ability to process and use qualitative data and insights.
 
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the collection and analysis of data using appropriate research methods and statistical tools to derive insights, employing both quantitative and qualitative research methods as appropriate
  • Conduct in-depth research on financial instruments and industry practices in the financial inclusion domain
  • Publish research output regularly to inform discourse in the financial inclusion domain
  • Collaborate with and complement the capacities of team members in order to contribute to the design and execution of financial instruments and interventions.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers
Requirements
  • A good Masters in Economics and Finance or associated disciplines.
  • Experience of at least 3 years in a role with demonstrated research capability
  • Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, Python, R, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • A strong passion for policy research and a commitment to making a positive impact within the financial inclusion domain
  • Spoken proficiency in both English and Hindi
  • The role demands fairly regular travel to rural / tribal areas of south Rajasthan and the candidates must be ready for working in frugal settings.
