MI has been registered in Türkiye since 2014 and has since built up its own office structure. MI now has two offices in southeastern Türkiye (Kilis and Gaziantep). The Malteser InternationaI team provides technical guidance and oversees management and administration of the partner-implemented projects in Türkiye and Northern Syria. MI is responsible for the procurement of the main medical supplies in Türkiye, the reporting and application as well as the quality assurance. In addition to the implementation of humanitarian and transitional aid projects, Malteser International´s strategic objective is the strengthening of the civil society structures in Türkiye and Syria. Malteser International focuses in Northwestern Syria and Türkiye on the sectors of health, livelihood, protection as well as social cohesion.

For its work in Northwestern Syria and Türkiye, Malteser International is looking for an Access & Security Officer – National Position.

As the Access and Security Officer, you will support Malteser International and our implementing partners in Northwestern Syria and Türkiye in all topics around security and access. 

Your responsibilities:

  • Conduct a security assessment of Malteser International premises (Gaziantep, Kilis) and areas of operations (NWS + Türkiye), and oversee the implementation of recommended improvements
  • Train all staff on necessary safety-related issues and/or procedures when/if required, in coordination with the Country Coordinator and the Global Head Safety & Security Advisor
  • Establish and maintain an information network to be able to provide verified information and early warnings
  • Regular revision & update of Security Management Plan (SMP) – Standard Operational Procedures, Contingency Plans, Risk Matrix, etc.
  • Provide inputs for regular contextual analysis and predicts possible conflict-related developments, and threats assessment, design and implement measures to mitigate potential risks, and report directly to the Country Coordinator and the Global Head Safety & Security Advisor
  • Support in developing an access strategy for Malteser International in Northwestern Syria
  • Support the program team and partners on the location selection and conduct safety assessments and mapping of locations where Malteser International provides assistance in Northwestern Syria & Türkiye

Your profile:

  • At least 3 years of work experience in professional experience in line with the job requirements
  • Fluent in English both in written and spoken skills; Arabic skills are an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and represent at all levels, establish information and security networks, and coordinate with country authorities, donors, international organizations, and local NGOs, to build collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, social, and political issues
  • Eligible, able, and willing to travel to project areas in Northwestern Syria depending on the security situation and requirements of the organization

What we offer:

  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Duty Station: Gaziantep and Kilis, Turkey with travel to northern Syria (based on the situation and needs)
  • Duration of contract: Until 30.06.2024 with 2 months of probation period as per Turkish Labor Law; with the option of extension
  • Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package
