We are looking for an engaged Project Manager - Natural Tropical Forests who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

The Project Manager will lead FM Natural Tropical Forests growth, one of FSC's top four priority actions for 2024. This initiative is dedicated to enhancing FSC's footprint in tropical regions. It requires the development of short, medium, and long-term plans for FM growth along The Tropics. This encompasses both exploited forests for product extraction and preserved forests for conservation. The Project Manager position reports to the Natural Tropical Forest Sponsor (Regional Director in Latin America) for on-the-ground priority implementation.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee FM growth in Natural Tropical Forests, guiding and supporting the teams towards achieving project goals and objectives.
  • Develop, execute, and monitor project plans, ensuring Tropical FM growth.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Identify and analyze short-, mid-, and long-term opportunities, prioritizing a concentrated focus on the most promising prospects within tropical regions.
  • Collect and aggregate data and input from various sources to estimate the market potential and realistic growth opportunities.
  • Facilitate seamless collaboration among supporting teams in Bonn, regional teams, Network Partners with interests in Tropical Forests, and others to ensure effective communication and coordination across diverse geographical locations and areas of expertise.
  • Manage resources effectively, including budget and personnel, ensuring optimal utilization and adherence to financial constraints.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to secure necessary resources and support for project implementation.
  • Prepare regular progress reports detailing project milestones, challenges faced, and outcomes achieved, providing clear and concise updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports and research findings, ensuring accurate record-keeping for future reference.
  • Continuously monitor project activities, assessing risks and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Explore synergies between the Natural Tropical Forests and the other three FSC priorities.
  • Any other task as assigned by formal supervisor according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

Working Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Forestry, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Private sector experience is highly desirable.
  • Additional training or certification in Project Management is highly desirable.

 

Working Experience, Style and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Project Management, Business Development, and strong track record of successful results delivery.
  • Experience working with Tropical Forests, preferably with a focus on cross-regional initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage complex implementation projects in a multi-cultural environment that include management of budgets.
  • Experience in remote project management in a global context.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills including experience in data analysis for market intelligence.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Agile and OKRs is a plus.

 

Leadership:

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide cross-functional teams towards project objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to make strategic decisions, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities effectively.

 

Language and Communication Skills:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Professional or native fluency in another language such as Spanish, Portuguese, or French (languages strongly present in tropical areas) is a plus.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

 

Computer Skills – strong skills in the use of/experience with:

  • Standard software packages (MS Office) with capacity to manage databases in Excel.
  • Project management tools.
  • OKR and visual collaboration tools are a plus.

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Hybrid, living in Lima (Peru) or Sao Paulo (Brazil). These are potential sites for the initial on-the-ground implementation, ensuring a synchronized time zone for seamless coordination with the Natural Tropical Forest Project Sponsor (Regional Director in Latin America).
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week. (Part time of 75% or more could be considered). 
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance). 
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Frequent travel is required.
