Context

The UNESCO Office in Quito, in an articulated and synergistic action with the States of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, seeks to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially number 4 on education, generating impacts through advocacy processes in public policy, technical assistance in education and support in the development of regulations that promote the educational inclusion of all people throughout their lives, leaving no one behind. Currently, the UNESCO Office in Quito is focused on: • educational inclusion, • intercultural education, • technical and vocational education and training, and • education for sustainable development/education for environmental action. The UN volunteer will support the following strategic priorities for 2023: • Support countries in the field of education. • Strengthen education coordination spaces in cluster countries. • Follow-up to the TES 2022 agreements and accompanying the SDG4 monitoring mechanism. • Close the Multi-Year Resilience Programme and participate in phase II. • Identify new additional programmes (resource mobilization). • Provide support for the preparation of the “Comparative and Explanatory Regional Study” 2025 (ERCE, by its acronym in Spanish), led by Laboratorio Latinoamericano de Evaluación y Calidad Educativa (LLECE)-UNESCO. • Pilot studies: ERCE schools and measurement of holistic learning. • Strengthen intersectoral articulation between education and other UNESCO sectors. • Implement the participation programme in coordination with Cominal (artistic bachelors/violence protocols). • Generate technical documents derived from regular and extra-budgetary activities.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Provide support for the programmatic implementation and coordination of the education sector. 2. Liaise and coordinate with selected implementing partners and experts to support project implementation, including providing necessary oversight to ensure technical and operational quality assurance of project deliverables, and support for related administrative/contract management when necessary. 3. Take part and support in the organization of relevant internal and external coordination meetings and provide technical inputs. 4. Provide support for coordination with other education sector partners and stakeholders when necessary, and support linkages and complementarity. 5. Monitor and analyse national/local dynamics of educational inclusion, intercultural education, technical and vocational education and training, and education for sustainable development. 6. Prepare briefings, statements, and reports for formal reporting, as required. 7. Provide support and perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of the Education Sector, as needed.
