Job Description

Job Overview: The casework coordinator provides trauma-informed services to refugees and other qualified immigrants to support a positive resettlement experience and the achievement of client self-sufficiency. The Casework Coordinator also manages a team providing Refugee Cash Assistance and Casework and works closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop service and/or self-sufficiency plans to meet individual client needs and preferences utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements.  

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Core Service Delivery

  • Coordinate intake with refugees, asylees, parolees and other ORR-eligible populations, including verification of immigration status and confirmation of eligibility for RCA benefits.
  • Assign cases and supervise caseworkers providing direct services to RCA clients through orientations, enrollments, service plan development, administering cash assistance and providing monthly contact with resettlement and employment services agencies.
  • Ensure program compliance as outlined in the Refugee Cash Assistance contract and coordinate closely with the New Jersey Office for Refugees (NJOR).
  • Coordinate closely with caseworker’s employment specialists and other relevant internal departments to monitor client participation in employment services and English language training; make determinations regarding cash grant continuation and termination.
  • Coordinate closely with partner refugee-serving agencies to process RCA applications and ensure unduplicated services to clients.

Documentation, Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure oversight and monitoring of case files for proper file documentation, including developing appropriate forms, procedures and training for casework staff with casework supervisor.
  • Ensure case file documentation   contract requirements. Ensure data are accurately entered in required systems and support submission of timely reports to funder as required.
  • Review and authorize payment voucher requests and provide oversight of program expenditures in accordance with annual program budgets. 

Direct Client Services

  • Maintain a reduced active caseload of newly arrived clients and ensure all clients receive the full range of services mandated.
  • Assess and monitor client progress at regular intervals to ensure progress on goals is made and designated resources are maximized, modifying initial services plans and other documents as needed.
  • Develop local resources for clients and share contact information across programs.

Staff Supervision and Other Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train and oversee the onboarding of staff and interns within the program.
  • Oversee a team of caseworkers including daily oversight of active caseloads, delegation of work assignments, and coaching as necessary. Evaluate staff performance. 
  • Cultivate a respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment for team members and clients.
  • Carry out timely, professional interventions to ensure responsive, appropriate, and client-centered service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance of self and team with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 2 years resettlement experience strongly preferred.
