SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka, a member organization of SOS-Kinderdorf International, provides total care to the children who have lost their parents and supports the children who are at risk of losing the care of their biological family. The organization has well established projects in Piliyandala, Nuwaraeliya, Galle, Anuradhapura, Monaragala, Gandara, Peraliya, Jaffna and Mallavi.
We are seeking a dynamic individual for the following position.
ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT (CHILDREN’S VILLAGE – JAFFNA)
SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka work to keep families together and to provide alternative care when needed to support young people on their path to independence and advocate for the rights of the Children. The purpose of the Accounts Assistant to ensure that finance management and reporting happens in a timely manner so that the main activities of the Children’s Village/ Project is not disrupted.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for all key functions of accounting and cash management of the project.
- Preparation on a daily basis of bank/cash, petty cash and special cash float registers.
- Preparation and presentation of bank reconciliation statements of the project on a monthly basis.
- Make timely payments to staff, suppliers etc. and ensuring that all payments are authorized and backed up with proper receipts, invoices and other relevant documentation.
- Management of budget funds, keeping within the parameters of the approved budgets.
- Prepare and maintain the budget control schedules for each project on a daily basis and dispatch the completed schedules to the National Office at the end of each month.
- Enter the day to day transactions of the project to the computer and obtain printouts on a monthly basis.
- Collect the relevant documents and information in order to prepare the draft of the annual budget.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualifications in accounting or finance.
- Around a minimum of 1 – 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Proficient computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Power point and Online meeting platforms such as MS Teams or Zoom.
- Sound knowledge in written and spoken English and Sinhala as well as fluency in the local language pertaining to the respective project location.
