Duties and Responsibilities
Under the primary supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant, the social media intern's duties will include the following: - Use the UNRIC Trello Boards to plan, create and curate content ahead of time; - Collect and collate multimedia information from different departments and organizations; - Monitor various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN on a given week; - Edit and subtitle news videos for UNRIC’s social media channels, using dedicated software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva); create visuals, quote cards and other materials as requested using online tools (such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop); - Attend press conferences, meetings and events in Brussels to gather quotes and take photos and videos which can be used in social media posts; - Draft posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn; - Research trends and posts from partners and suggest retweets/reposts; monitor the social media accounts for followers' comments and questions, and flag them to the team; - Take an active role in the live coverage of events taking place in Brussels; - Draft monthly reports reflecting performance of the UNRIC’s social media accounts; - Carry out other tasks as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Applicants must also: - Be computer literate in standard software applications - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in one or more of the following languages is also desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish
