Water For People is a global nonprofit organization working across nine countries in Latin America, Asia, and Africa to address the global water crisis and equip communities with lasting access to clean water and sanitation services – for Everyone, Forever. Water for People partners with local governments, businesses, and individuals, providing the support they need to bring clean water and sanitation systems to their own communities.
 
Water For People India was established in 2008 in alignment with the global vision and mission to provide improved access to water and sanitation in rural areas and urban. Water For People India aims to provide universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and improved hygiene practices, sustained by local institutions, government, and private sector. Water For People India is an affiliate of Water For People, USA.
 
Water for People India is operational in the state of West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Odisha, and reached 2.6 million people through community drinking water, WASH in public institutions, and market-led approaches to sanitation. Over the past decade, Water For People India has emerged as a niche organization with focused water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs that cater to the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, inclusive of public institutions such as Anganwadi centers, schools, and health centres. Water For People India is a direct implementation agency supported by civil societies, local NGO partners, and entrepreneurs.
 
Job Summary

Water For People India is looking for a reputable agency/consultancy to conduct extensive research and impact evaluation work. This task entails meticulously analysing successfully implemented projects, as well as performing data analysis incorporating both primary and secondary data from project locations. The purpose of this engagement is to facilitate incisive insights, effective documentation, and competent dissemination of research findings. The scope of research includes both existing and new geographical areas. The focus of the research will be around WASH, Water Resources Development and Management, Agriculture and Livelihood integrating with Climate Change impacts.
 
Research -
 
Existing geography – Water For People's primary data, as well as data from other departments, will be used to create a comprehensive research recommendation. This recommendation seeks to improve the organisation's learning efforts by delving into existing challenges in the areas of WASH, Water Resources Management, and Climate Change within the specified geographical areas.
 
New geography research will be launched to investigate the effects of climate change on WASH, water resource development and management, agriculture, and livelihood in new geographical area. The primary goal of this research is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges present in the area and then create necessary documentation to effectively address the challenges. The research documents will include a variety of recommendations for mitigating the identified challenges within the specified region. Using the research findings, the effective concept notes will be developed.
 
Impact evaluation/lesion learnt study – using the data and reports of the successfully implemented projects, perform the data analysis, and develop the comprehensive documents to extract the learnings, challenges, and mitigation plans from the implemented project. Using the analysed and reviewing reports, develop the knowledge products to enhance the knowledge of the organization, develop new ideas to document a great concept note to share it with external agencies such as donors, and government departments.

Audience:
Internal program team: The research will help in learning the program’s achievement, challenges and its mitigation plan, learning new ideas to develop the concept notes, new challenges to build the capacity of team by developing the knowledge products.
 
External audience: The research and impact evaluation report can be used for new project development, donor interaction or can be repurpose for the social media content (articles, blogs, success stories, case studies, etc).
Scope of Work
The selected agency will be in responsible for conducting impact evaluation studies of Water For People’s successfully implemented projects, research on climate change impacts integrating WASH, WRM, Agriculture and Livelihood in existing and new geographies. The studies and research will look at the long term effects of the project. Based on the findings, the agency will also be required to create high quality reports, concept notes and knowledge products that can be used for internal learning, external communication, and collaboration.
 
The agency will be responsible for the following activities:
  • Examine and comprehend project documentation, objectives, and indicators.
  • Create a comprehensive framework for impact evaluation, including data collection methodologies, tools, and sample selection.
  • Conduct data collection field visits to project areas using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Analyse data gathered to evaluate project outcomes, effectiveness, sustainability, and community empowerment.
  • Through stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions, identify success stories, lessons learned, challenges, and best practices.
  • Create impact evaluation reports that are clear and concise for each project, highlighting key findings, recommendations, and actionable insights.
  • To effectively communicate the project's impact to various stakeholders, create visually appealing knowledge products such as case studies, infographics, notes, and presentations.
  • Ensure that all collected and shared information respects the privacy and dignity of the communities involved.

Deliverable:
  • Framework for impact evaluation, including methodologies and a data collection plan.
  • Raw data, observations, and preliminary findings are included in reports.
  • Each project receives comprehensive impact evaluation reports that include analysis, findings, recommendations, and lessons learned.
  • Developing knowledge products that communicate project impact and insights effectively. To enhance the capacity of organisation.
  • Summarising the findings and recommendations for internal and external dissemination.
  • Developing effective concept notes for external submission.
Timeline: February 01, 2024 – September 30, 2024
Required Skills and Experience
  • The agency must have at least 5+ years of experience in impact evaluation of WASH, Water Resource Management, Agriculture and Livelihood. And have good understanding of WASH, WRM, Climate change, JJM, SBM etc.
  • Must have experience in conducting research in around WASH, WRM, Agriculture and Livelihood integrating climate change impacts.
  • Must have demonstrated experience/expertise in data analysis, statistical analysis, triangulation, and qualitative analysis in the development sector.
  • Good experience of developing the concept notes using the findings from research for publication, blog documentation, and success stories.
  • Good communication skills and an eye for detailing.
  • Excellent report/ documentation skill in English.
  • Ability to collaborate and achieve actionable results while meeting deadlines.
