Functional Responsibilities

The Analyst will support the Social and Environmental Specialist in managing the yearly Environmental Inventory round; in facilitating the monitoring and daily implementation of the SE management system; in delivering the corporate climate roadmap; and more broadly, the Analyst will support all other workstreams of the team. Under the supervision of the Social and Environmental Specialist, the detailed responsibilities of the Climate and Environmental Analyst include the following:

Technical expertise and reporting:

  • Support the corporate Environmental and GHG reporting process by gathering the reports from field offices, providinge coordination of the focal points network, responding to technical and practical queries, and contributing to the data assurance process

  • Perform the role of master user for the online reporting platform used by UNOPS, facilitate liaison with the product support team, perform user testing and ensure UNOPS requirements are properly reflected on the platform

  • Coordinate the drafting of the yearly Inventory Management Plan for the GHG inventory process, by managing the recording of all procedural steps 

  • Coordinate the daily queries and interactions with field offices and colleagues seeking guidance on the Inventory, on climate and emission reduction activities,and on other aspects of the SE management system; 

Capacity development and training:

  • Assist in the preparation of the training plan for the Environmental Inventory, and facilitate the delivery of webinars and other outreach events

  • Be responsible for managing the transfer of technical material developed by the team into online and face-to-face trainings and online modules, in liaison with UNOPS learning team.

Data management, analysis and coordination:

  • Under the supervision of the Social and Environmental Specialist, support the expansion of the corporate climate activities, support the activities for strengthening the climate baseline and the development of new methodologies with research, data analysis, preparation of graphic material, presentations, and other content; support coordination in these areas with other Units, with field offices and other stakeholders;

  • Perform quarterly calculations and analysis on official duty travel data, to support decision-making and progress towards more efficient and less carbon-intensive travel patterns

  • Support the team with the creation of matrixes, progress reports, dashboards, etc.; and perform any other ad hoc tasks in support of the team activities as requested.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) preferably  in Climate Change, Energy, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Engineering, Political Studies, International Relations, Development Studies, or related fields  is required.An Advanced University Degree or a Master's Degree is required might be considered in lieu of some of the years of experience


Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the field of climate change (mitigation and adaptation), environment, international relations and/or sustainable development is required. 

Experience in GHG inventories/ databases is an advantage.

Experience in knowledge, communication, or information management particularly in regard to the development of promotional material is desired.

Knowledge of Google Workspace, preferably Google sheet, Google doc, Google slides and Google drive, is required. Knowledge of Looker Studio is an asset. 


Language:

Fluency in English is a requirement. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an asset.
