The Training Specialist (Female), working under the supervision of the Legal Capacity Development Team (LCD) Manager, will support all IDLO partners in conducting all steps related to the training cycle (to include pre-training, training, and post-training activities), following registration of their projects.

The Training Specialist will also be responsible for supporting all IDLO partner organizations’ relevant staff in developing their pre-training, training, and post-training related activities and capacity.  This may include the development of post training coaching and mentoring plans for ongoing skills development and knowledge transfer.

Functions / Key results expected:

Summary of Functions:

  1. Provide support to all professional training and knowledge transfer related activities, for IDLO partner organizations, as needed.
  2. Coach personnel within the partner organizations with a view to enable them to independently execute training concepts, deliver training and/or conduct all training-related activities for capacity development purposes.
  3. Work in partnerships with the partner organizations to collaborate on all aspects of training, including development of training plans; training-related handbooks, guidelines, manuals; and all training coordination and logistics-related activities, as needed.
  4. Collaborate with IDLO Afghanistan Project, Support/Operations, and other core services teams to ensure timely execution of project deliverables as needed.

Key results expected:

  • Closely coordinate with IDLO Afghanistan project, operations, and core services teams on all training-related activities.
  • Work with project and core services teams to identify priorities and develop training work plans in line with the priorities of the registered projects of partner organizations.
  • Draft timely high-quality weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports (and any other reports, as needed) on progress against deliverables and schedules as well as thematic reports (including in English).
  • Support all training-related activities, including, but not limited to:
  • Assisting in developing the capacity of the partner organizations’ trainers in delivering training.
  • Delivering high quality training to the partner organizations in line with IDLO training methodology and adult learning principles.
  • Make sure all aspects of training (from planning to coordination to implementation) meet IDLO TOT and other training related guidelines.
  • Contribute to the design and refinement of curricula, as needed (including drafting and reviewing curricula) and all other training-related documents, as well as training and coaching tools and processes to support IDLO’s responsiveness and effectiveness to capacity development interventions.
  • Working closely with partner organization to ensure all training forms (including pre-and post-tests, post-test evaluation forms etc.) are properly assessed, evaluated, maintained, and recorded in a timely fashion.

Monitoring:

  • Conduct Real Time Monitoring (RTM) of the training delivered by the partner organizations to build their capacity, as needed.
  • Provide need-based coaching to partner organizations trainers for rectification of the gaps identified during monitoring.
  • Draft RTM reports, maintain files of reports, and ensure key findings from the RTM and or other monitoring reports are updated.
  • Contribute to reports on the RTM findings, other monitoring forms, and post-training delivery forms as needed for quarterly, annual, final reports, etc.
  • Contribute to design and refinement of training tools and framework, as needed.
  • Build capacity of the partner organizations and institutions on training and monitoring approach.
  • Provide training, coaching, and/or mentoring on training processes as needed and in line with the workplan.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Legal Capacity Development Team (LCD) Manager.

Impact of results:

The Training Specialist ensures quality of training delivery and training monitoring and all other training-related activities to provide support to the IDLO Project Teams and to the partner organizations (following registration of their projects) and provides regular reports of impact and progress made by partner organizations.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Conducting research from national and international sources as needed.
  • Knowledge of Sharia/jurisprudence and Afghan laws as well as Afghan and international legal reasoning standards.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to manage collaborative relationships.
  • Self-motivated, but also able to work collaboratively and supportively with others.
  • Ability to take the initiative in task management and to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet).
  • Highly organized and capable of managing administrative and project management processes.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience as a legal practitioner in enforced laws.
  • Verifiable experience in organizing curricula and training-related workshops, events, and in delivering training preferred.
  • Experience in applying adult learning principles in a training/capacity development environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Dari and/or Pashto and English.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient use of other ICT software and internet software.
  • Proven ability to see through tasks set and deliver results.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, flexibility and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Keen sense of ethics, integrity, and commitment to IDLO’s mandate.

Education:

University degree in Shari’a Law or LLB degree.  LLM preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in the areas of curriculum development and training. A minimum of one-year verifiable previous experience in a supervisory or similar position.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is required.  Fluency in English is desired. Knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage.

Location:

The position will be based in Kabul.
