OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

This post is located in a Field Office and works under the overall authority and direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Assistant and the guidance of the Head of Office (HFO). This post performs a variety of tasks aimed to support management and operations of all ICT infrastructure, equipment and services for the office.

Long Description

Under the overall authority and direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Assistant and the guidance of the Head of Office according to DBS guidelines, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: 

  • In close collaboration with DBS the ICT Assistant ensures ICT related needs are met in the field office. S/he will support management and operations of all ICT infrastructure, equipment and services for the office, ensure that ICT-delivered services and end-user needs are understood and met, and foresee ICT configuration changes. Activities are carried out according to established ICT standards and policies.
  • Provide user support and technical/functional specialist support to the office. Assist users in solving technical problems and investigating elevated issues by confirming the validity of the problem and seeking for known solutions related to these more complex issues. If a problem is new and/or s/he cannot determine a solution, s/he is responsible for raising the issue to DBS support and/or local external service provider.
  • S/he will implement the rollout of new functionalities, applications or services, systems upgrades and IT infrastructure changes under the coordination of DBS. Follow up on the installation of systems, network components and software. S/he advises on best technical solutions, in coordination with DBS, in order to achieve required standards while taking into consideration local technical constraints. Propose actions for improving ICT services and reducing costs.
     
Long Description
  • Perform needs assessment for new applications and modifications to existing ones, make sure related policies are followed and that every ICT initiative, project or application is properly registered in the Application Portfolio. Prepare and draft ICT operational, technical, hardware software requirements and specifications for procurement invitations to bid. Update and maintain the ICT procurement inventory (hardware and software details).
  • Identify and analyse training needs on ICT related areas for users, mainly on existing corporate applications and desktop tools, and organize the appropriate courses. 
  • Liaise regularly with Host Organization or UN System to ensure efficient and reliable operations of the ICT infrastructure and proper implementation of Service Level Agreements. Represent UNESCO at ICT inter-agency meetings and groups at a country level. 
  • Join the ICT monthly meeting organized by DBS, take note on updates and give follow up on new guidelines. 
  • Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work.

Education

  • Completed secondary and/or vocational education. 


Work Experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of Information and Communications Technology or related fields.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality guidelines and protocols.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education 

  • Qualifications/diploma in the field of ICT.
  • At least 4 years of complementary education in computer science would be an asset.

 

Work Experience

  • Experience in the UN System or International Organizations is an asset.
