The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. AIIB’s Investment Operations are divided into two regions — Region 1 and Region 2. Region 1 includes South Asia (except Pakistan and Afghanistan), Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, while Region 2 includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, East Asia, West Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Latin America. Each regional team has two subdivisions: Infrastructure Investment Department and Banking Department. Each region is led by a Vice President and reporting staff includes technical specialists and bankers. 

The Infrastructure Investment Department Region 1 is expanding its talent pool of private sector specialists to scale  up its support for energy, transportation, water and urban sectors in its client countries and is recruiting experienced specialists with core infrastructure sector knowledge. Applicants should have infrastructure financing experience in commercial banks, investment banks, international financial institutions and/or consulting firms. Experience working in the energy sector such as hydropower, natural gas, solar, wind including newer technologies is an added advantage.

The Investment Associate / Officer — Private Sector shall contribute to origination, structuring and execution of various projects in the core infrastructure sector using various lending and investment products. This will also require close interdepartmental coordination and collaboration. An individual with strong technical expertise and an inclusive approach is well suited for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate and develop potential investment opportunities.
  • Maintain a strong project pipeline for the relevant sectors and geographies by interacting with sponsors, developers, investors and financing institutions such as commercial banks, international financial institutions, private equity funds, export credit agencies and intermediaries.
  • Support, manage and lead throughout the project due diligence and internal approval process. Ensure that the due diligence is conducted on key economic, financial, technical, legal, and environmental and social issues, and appropriate risk allocation and mitigation provided in the financing structure and legal financing agreements.
  • Effectively support/co-lead/lead the team for overall project delivery ensuring proper documentation and appropriate approvals secured in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • For an Associate level, minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience and for an Officer level, minimum 5-8 years of relevant work experience in the field of debt financing (loans, bonds and private placement) and/or direct equity investments at a commercial bank, investment bank, international financial institution and/or in a top-tier consultancy firm;
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of core infrastructure sectors including energy, transportation, water and urban;
  • Demonstrated experience in structuring comprehensive solutions across products such as senior debt and mezzanine debt. Experience in structuring direct equity investments would be an advantage;
  • Strong analytical, credit and financial modelling skills is a must;
  • Experience in Asian markets including South Asia would be an advantage;
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of a language(s) of a country in which AIIB invests would be an advantage; and
  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, economics or related fields.
