Organizational Setting

The key mission of the FAO Representation in Somalia, which is led by FAO Representative (FAOR), is to assist and support the national government to develop policies, strategies and programme aimed at accelerating the Implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the area of FAO's global mandate and Strategic Objectives. More specifically, FAO's response aims to address national needs and priorities in achieving food security, reducing hunger and malnutrition, developing agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors, and ensuring the sustainable use of environmental and natural resources and respond to recurrent emergencies. The current portfolio of activities of the FAO Representation in Somalia includes a wide scope of technical support interventions ranging from policy support through livestock and crop production, to natural resource management, Nutrition, value chain, food security analysis and water and land information management. FAO is also implementing several emergency, resilience-building, and development interventions, with the support of its five field offices and close to four hundred staff in partnership with the Federal and State line ministries.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative FAO Somalia and the direct supervision of FSNAU Chief Technical Advisor.

Technical Focus

The Food Security Data Analyst is responsible for analysing all FSNAU food security related data sets as well as secondary data sets received from partners and other sources\:

Tasks and responsibilities

• Analyse Food Security data sets using the relevant statistical or custom made software (IDS, MS Excel, SPSS, etc.)
• Develop routine and non-routine analytical outputs (charts, graphs, tables, etc) to support Food Security and Nutrition Analysts
• Assist in developing and enhancing the regular and ad hoc data collection instruments (data collection forms) ensuring all indicators are analytically relevant and eventually entered into a database.
• Assemble and ensure integrity of data sets, tables, charts, etc when required by internal or external sources.
• Support analytical activities of Nutrition Team as required.
• Develop or enhance data management process (data collection, transfer, entry, cleaning) ensuring it is conducted to the highest technical level possible.
• Assist in creating data validation procedures.
• Manage the FSNAU Integrated Database System (IDS) and the various data sets within with respect to data cleanliness, validation, and precision as well as administration of the system.
• Develop or enhance data management process and data flow procedures ensuring hard copy, soft copy, and metadata management system is robust and effective.
• Oversee data validation system - supervising necessary staff involved with data cleanliness and verification.
• Oversee filing of hard copy and digital field-based data sets, reports, and metadata ensuring hard copies are safely stored and soft copies are properly stored.
• Liaise with other agencies to acquire and share food security and nutrition related data sets (food assistance, markets, etc)
• Participate and/or plan internal and external meetings regarding the utilization and management of FSNAU databases.
• Lead the analysis and presentation of Urban and IDP related food security data drawn from seasonal assessments.
• Assist Publications Officer to maintain necessary data sets on FSNAU web site and internal servers.
• Any other related office duties as required.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics ore closely related field from a recognized university/institution similar.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in Somalia.
• Working knowledge of English and Somalia Languages.
• National of Somalia.
