Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

 

About the job:

The overall purpose of this position (Paramedic) is to make sure he has full access to all staff (Field level staff) for delivering first aid and any other medical support if required during the Mine Action operation period DRC HDP Ukraine staff to any location within area of operation in a safe and timely manner in accordance with HDP standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP) and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC) and actively and readily available to be deployed to all tasks. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide medical support to the MMC teams.
  • Assist the MC in maintaining reporting mechanisms and submit proper records and reports on all aspects of medical activities as by the DRC HDP SOP Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • Ensure that they have adequate medical equipment as by DRC HDP SOP Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • Ensure that the medical equipment is in good working order and maintained at all times.
  • The CASEVAC procedure is to be explained to all team members at the start of each day (during the morning briefing).
  • Always be present at the task site during working hours.
  • Maintain radio log and radio communication with the DRC HDP radio room, except of mine incident case, which is the task of Ambulance Driver.
  • Be responsible for the radio equipment and ensure that the radios are fully charged (spare batteries) prior to leaving the base.
  • Ensure that the Ambulance is clean at all times.
  • Update the site log for all external and internal visitors. The logbook shall contain the name, nationality, unit/organization, blood type, time of entrance and exit
  • Update the daily attendance on the site briefing board.
  • Inform the DS and radio room when team members are absent or sick.
  • Carry out other tasks as dictated by changing circumstances or as required by the TL.

 

About you:

To be successful in this role we expect you to have timely and readily available whenever required to perform required duties and carry out your duties completely by following all applicable rules and procedures. Moreover, we also expect the following:

  • Recognised medical education: a diploma from a state medical institution with a qualification as a paramedic or doctor.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience in medicine.
  • Experience in emergency medical care is required.
  • Experience in dealing with injuries, including those sustained in accidents, is welcome.
  • Confident PC user (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian (written and oral).
  • Work experience in an ambulance or as a military medic; previous experience in conducting paramedic training and knowledge of English is an asset.

Contract length: open ended contract after 3 month probation period.

Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv - Full time based 

Start date: 1st May, 2024.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
