POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Research Associate - India, West Bengal The International Potato Center (CIP) is looking for a proactive Research Associate to work with the project team and other partners on the implementation of project activities in the field, collection of research data, publication of research findings, and that those findings are translated into a form that will enable practitioners to take new methods and tools to scale.

About the role

This position will be based in West Bengal and the selected candidate will help with capacity strengtheningeffortslinkedtobuildingacommunityofpracticeknowledgeableinpotatoseedsystems, cropmanagementand post-harvestmanagement. Thepositionrequires anexperiencedpotato person with good quantitative and writing skills combined with an ability to teach complex topics to researchers at different levels of expertise and as well it will be an opportunity to developpublications. Thisposition will be based in Siliguri, West Bengal, India and will report to the Project Managerof West Bengal Project.

Key responsibilities:

The selected candidate will mainly focus on these tasks/responsibilities below: • Promoting Apical Rooted Cutting Technology.

• Overseeing production of potato tissue plantlets, Production of Apical Rooted cuttings. • Conductdemonstrations on improvedproductionpractices related to potatoseed production, plant or soil nutrition, pest and disease management, mechanization, and watermanagement. • Conductfieldvisits tomonitor and collectseed, plant,and soil samples and testing samplesfor nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.

• Work closely with the project team in developing production practices by integrating varieties with improved production practices to improve farmers’ income.

• Provide trainings to farmers, project partners and extension agents on improved production practices.

• Contribute to writing training materials, technical progress reports and annual reviews and workplans as directed by the project manager.

• Assist the project manager in administrative tasks and activities related to knowledge management and generating communication outputs for users of technologies.

• Comply with national and international health and safety laws, regulations, and standards. What are we looking for?

The selected candidate should have the following skills, knowledge, experience, and personal characteristics:

• MSc. degree in Pathology/seed system/agronomy/Horticulture or another relevant field with strong field experience.

• Experience in promoting Apical Rooted Cutting Technology.

• Experience in seed Potato Production.

• Experience in Disease diagnosis. • Expertise in experimental design related to field agronomy, data collection, analysis, etc. • Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks to meet deadlines.

• Experience of technical reporting with advance level knowledge of MS office

• Good record of scientific and technical publications with advance level knowledge of database

work

• Good interpersonal skills: ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and

respect for diversity.

• Strong understanding of integrating gender and other social equity considerations into project

design and delivery.

• Ability to organize work and write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate

effectively orally.

• Willing to travel extensively in the region/state.

• Knowledge about digital tools.

• Advance written and verbal communication skills in English, Hindi and Bengali.

• Willingness to travel frequently within Districts of West Bengal.
