Context

This volunteering opportunity is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia in the framework of the initiative launched in partnership with UNV in December 2023 to foster youth and disability inclusion through meaningful and impactful volunteering assignments with the United Nations between 2024 and 2026. The UN Volunteer will serve as a Geomatician with the Ministry of Housing and Equipement, contributing to various projects related to land surveying, mapping, and spatial data management. The Ministry is committed to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure development and urban planning through accurate geospatial information and analysis.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the delegated supervisors within the Ministry of Housing and Equipment and within the UN-HABITAT, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Conduct field surveys using geospatial tools and equipment to collect data on land parcels, infrastructure assets, and other spatial features. 2. Assist in the processing, analysis, and interpretation of geospatial data to support decision-making processes related to infrastructure development and urban planning. 3. Participate in the development and maintenance of geographic information systems (GIS) databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility. 4. Collaborate with other departments within the Ministry to integrate geospatial information into various projects and initiatives. 5. Provide technical support and training to Ministry staff on geomatics technologies and methodologies. 6. Assist in the production of maps, charts, and spatial visualizations to communicate complex geospatial information effectively. 7. Contribute to the design and implementation of land management systems and cadastral mapping projects. 8. Support the coordination of surveys and mapping activities with external stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners. 9. Assist in the identification and resolution of technical issues related to geospatial data collection, processing, and analysis. 10. Stay informed about advancements in geomatics technologies and best practices and apply relevant knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
